Advice on planning first hog hunt.
Hey folks,
I'm looking for advice on planning a hog hunt in the next year or two.
Myself and a couple of friends want to spend a long weekend somewhere in the south to hunt feral hogs. Our goal is to harvest meat, but of course we want to find a good guide, and have a pleasant experience doing so.
What I am doing at this point is gathering information: costs, suggested states (strongly prefer to not drive more than 8 hours to get there), best states as far as regulations and bag limits, and perhaps a recommended outfitter to work through.

Re: Advice on planning first hog hunt.
My son works part time as a guide with a fairly new service in Ft. Ogden, FL (20 minute drive from my home here in Pt. Charlotte). They have already taken a number of pro athletes out. It is a little farther than eight hours, though, but there is no bag limit. Give me a day or two to get some details. Last time I drove past PA (went to Ohio), I think it took me in the neighborhood of 17 hrs, or so.

Dude ain't called back, yet. My son has just missed his second week of work with a bad back, so he hasn't even seen him. Will keep trying if interested. Word has it that he is booked two months out.

Re: Advice on planning first hog hunt.
I am from Tx and know land owners there so that is where I am going this Summer.
Exceptions: a hunting license is not required to hunt the following:
Coyotes, if the coyotes are attacking, about to attack, or have recently attacked livestock, domestic animals, or fowl.
Depredating feral hogs, if a landowner (resident or non-resident) or landowner's agent or lessee is taking feral hogs causing depredation on the landowner's land.

Coincidentally, my son just got home from the Mill's residence and got me the info. http://teamsrr.com/
My son was telling me that they just took the Charlie Daniels Band on a hunt.BCM and Glock...for a bigger pile of 'cold dead hands' brass.

Re: Advice on planning first hog hunt.
Well, I have a .45-70 Marlin. Loaded with 300-400 gr bullets pushed by a stout load or RL7 I know it will stop most any hog PDQ.
Thanks for the advice, though I was hoping to find a place in the Carolinas or Tenn to hunt.
