    Default 1911 light primer strikes

I bought a colt 1911 off my neighbor for 150.00 because it was not working. I thought the light primer strikes were caused by a bad firing pin spring. I replaced it and it only fixed the problem for three rounds. I believe the hammer needs to be replaced. I am looking for advice on what parts to replace? I am not adverse to replacing everything that could cause this problem. I will be ordering combat wilson parts.

Try replacing the mainspring with a stock weight and see if that fixes the issue.

Could be a few things. The mainspring (or hammer spring) could be too light, the firing pin channel may be gooped up and needs to be cleaned (holds true for the main spring housing, as well), or the firing pin needs to be replaced.

If you're replacing parts, the hammer is the last thing I would do unless you just want to. Replacing the FP, the MS (standard is 23 lbs), and cleaning these areas well are a good place to start. Also, be sure the slide is going all the way into battery. If it is hanging up a little, you can get a light primer strike.

With an "experienced" pistol,,,, I replace all the springs with a set of Wolf springs right off the bat. How old is the pistol? I presume it to be a .45 ACP.

As 300 mentioned,,,, a good cleaning is in order.

I gave the 1911 a real good cleaning which it needed. Then I replaced the firing pin spring because I had an extra. I was going over the 1911 again and noticed the hammer has an indentation from striking the firing pin so that definitly needs to be replaced. I am going to order a complete spring kit from wilson combat, a hammer and firing pin. I believe the slide is going into battery but i have noticed that there is a slight gap between the frame and barrel. probably .002 inches i have not put a feeler gauge to be exactly sure of the space. The history of the gun I just learned. The origanal owner was in the navy during WWII then the gun went to his son then to the brother who is my neighbor. Also the 1911 has been highly modified. The gentlement who designed the uzi spent two days with this gun. They shortend a government size down to a commander and then welded on a compensator.

I have replaced all of my firing pins with extended ones. Dawson and Limcat make them.

yeh 150. I figured in the cost of repairs at worst would be 200. I took a shot with that number and he took it. I also got a soft case and a box of target ammo. My best still has been the free bolt action 20ga from this forum. I wish I knew how to post pictures of the gun. I also forgot to mention It is a colt.
