Owning a rifle in BC but having a 24 year old felony?
Well here is my dilemma...
I'm 42 years old now. When I just turned 18 I was caught in Butler County messing with drugs and have a few counts of Possession with Intent to Deliver on my record from 1988. It's considered a felony, but I haven't done a thing wrong over the past 24 years.
I'd like to own a rifle that I can take to the range and shoot with my son and teach my daughters how to shoot too. But I pretty much haven't bothered over the past few decades since I knew I had those felonies behind me.
Others have said since it was so long ago... I might be able to get it expunged, or I could apply for a pardon of some sort?
I have no idea where to even begin. I also heard it can be quite pricey, and I don't have money to throw around taking "chances" at getting this straightened out either.
Does anyone have any idea where I could even begin to inquire how I could have my rights restored, what it may cost, or anything?
Thank you

My advice is to consult with a lawyer. Yes it will be expensive. Do some research online. This may be a good start.

Hopefully GunLawyer001 will chime in. He's based in the Philly area but he might be able to point you in the right direction.Μολὼν λάβε

Sounds like you need a pardon. I handle pardons all around the state, since we'd end up in Harrisburg anyway.
Pennsylvania is not generous with expungements in general, there's no time limit on convictions, at least not under age 70. To eliminate both the state and federal prohibitions, you probably need a pardon followed by an expungement. A pardon entitles you to a court order for expungement, although even that had to be settled by case law because the expungement statute isn't even broad enough to allow an expungement then.Attorney Phil Kline, AKA gunlawyer001@gmail.com
