What is with women?!

I'm talking to a friend of mine, and she's been telling me that her ex boyfriend and father of her child used to beat her in the relationship, and she never did anything about it. Now, he still calls her and threatens her, and still comes around and tries to hit her. Just the other day he came over and tried to kick her door in, but yet she does nothing!

I've been trying to tell her to get a restraining order against him, and record his phone calls, and internet conversations so she can go to court to get full custody of their child, and move somewhere where he wont find them, but she insists he'll kill her if she does. I told her, "hunny, he's going to kill you if you don't".

I never could figure out what possesses women to to stay in a situation like this. It blows my mind.

He's gotten into her head and unless she gets serious help, by someone other than friends, as you say she will wind up dead or in the hospital. Why don't you see if there is some kind of support group for women who are abused in her area and get the number to her. They may be able to get through to her where you can't.

It's possible that she grew up in a similar situation and doesn't know anything different. I agree with the documentation of everything, but this guy has to be stopped like yesterday.

+1 to what bill said. a support group...or even a therapist...would be a good idea.

battered woman syndrome is a very real problem and it sounds like your friend might be afflicted with it do some degree.

that is one thing i have absolutely no tolerance for. bullies in general, but especially bullies who prey on weaker people they are actually supposed to be loving and protecting.

I read it, and it definitely does seem like it to an extent. She managed to get away from him by packing up and leaving in the middle of the night some time ago, but it seems that that's about as far as she is willing to go to protect herself, and unfortunately, that's not enough.
