Moved here 2 years ago this month...still trying to figure out.

How difficult is it to get a license to carry concealed in this county? Do they have a high denial rate? I have a squeaky clean record (I've had to with past employment with government contracts and the like) and am wanting to carry.

Clean record means no problem. Anyone on here who has had problems usually had some mark (deserved/undeserved/error) on their record.

Allegheny, unlike other counties, has been known to take the full 45 days to issue approval but I think that's more a factor of population/staffing/gov't work ethic. than some active deterrence mechanism.

    Fill out the application online:

    http://www.sheriffalleghenycounty.com/firearms.html

And you should receive your yellow approval card in the mail within 45 days.
Take it to the courthouse downtown, pay your $20, get your picture taken and walk out with your LTCF.

    And welcome to the area!

Hello and welcome to the forum. Its just as simple as tvtog said. If you do recieve your yellow card, you have 30 days to get down the sheriffs office or you have to reapply. Sheriff is open 8-330 m-f,and they are closed on the smallest of holidays so check your calenday! $20 for 5 years is well worth it.

My yellow card came back in two weeks after I mailed it in. They never checked any of my references either. Pretty smooth but not as easy as neighboring Westmoreland where you just go into the sheriffs office and apply right there.
