Best bang for the buck

I finished the basement so I can set up a place to reload. Now I need to buy reloading kit. I have looked at Dillon, RCBS and Lyman so far.

Should I flip a coin, or would you guys be so kind as to give me your opinion's.

If I put $600 into buying a kit ie: press, scale and tumbler, case trimmer.
What are your opinions and who is a good source.

Should I buy direct from the Manufacturer's site or Midway, Cheaper Than Dirt, Cabellas...etc

My initial investment in a press kit should be______________

To answer the title, I would say the best bang for your buck would be a Lee kit. Again I use Lee case trimmers. Ah, but you didn't say what and how much you will be reloading. For a mechanical scale I would pick an RCBS, pick the one that best suits your use and budget. I haven't bought an electronic scale in many years and that model is no longer in production. My tumbler is a Lyman. again which one depends on how much you want to tumble in one shot.

I have the rcbs 2000 . It came with everything to get started, except the dies, or tumbler.

If you want to look at a lot of reloading kits at one time go to MidwayUSA. They carry just about everyone but Dillon IIRC. Then you can compare features versus prices. Most of the "Master" kits will supply everything needed to start except dies, case cleaner, cases, bullets, powders, and primers. Once you get the basics then you can start tailoring it to your own tastes.

For the average Joe, probably the best prices would be MidwayUSA, Natchez, or Midsouth Shooters Supply. That is unless you can get the stuff at a good sale at Gander, Cabelas, Bass Pro, etc (but it would have to be a good sale to beat Midway and the others).

Myself, from what I know and have learned would to be buy from MidwayUSA. I would start with a "Master" Kit from someone, add a vibratory cleaner, and the dies for what I am going to reload the most. I would also add the Lyman #48 manual and the ABC's of Reloading book.

Personally, I like RCBS, Lyman and Hornady. For progressive I like Dillon.

Reloading is very personal, some like one brand, others like other brands, everyone has their opinion and no matter who says what all the major reloading supplies manufacturers make good equipment (otherwise they wouldn't be in business).

Depending on what you want to handload, you may or may not need a progressive. But even if you get a progressive, you will probably still want a single stage press-just my opinion. I don't believe there is a bad press out there, it would not stay on the market too long. Pick your favorite color! I have a 32 yr. old RCBS Rockchucker and a 25 yr. old Dillon RL 450. I am very happy with both. My case cleaner is also a Dillon, the big one. I am happy with it, also.
My only absolute recomendation is carbide if you get handgun dies.

like where do you keep your powder, in a fire proof cabinet. ?

I store my powder on a shelf. Primers in the original carton, on a shelf. Neither has been a fire hazard for me.
Ask all the questions that you can think of, that's how to find out what works best for you.

I also recommend Lee. I have a Lee turret press and a Lee progressive and I think they're great presses, regardless of the price. The affordable price is the icing on the cake. When I bought my stuff (10 yrs ago), the best prices were at F&M reloading - http://www.fmreloading.com/
