Moving day is coming soon. June 18th to be exact. We found a house to rent, not too far from the high school.

I am so looking forward to the end of my weekly driving, not to mention the savings in gas and turnpike tolls.

    See you around,

    Dale

Well then, you are about 1/2 mile from the Somerset Sportsmen Rifle and Pistol Association indoor range, of which I am a member. We also have an outdoor range that has 30, 50,100 and 200 yard ranges with tables and benches.

Hoovers is the best place in the area for firearms (price/selection), reloading equipment etc. You are about 7 miles from that. Then there is S&S Sports shop, he has some firearms and a huge archery selection, your about 8 or so miles from that.

I'd avoid the PGC range. One, you have to get a hunting license or pay $30/yr to use it now, two, the range is this little thing tucked behind one of the prisons in the area and three, you are limited to 6 rounds in a pistol or three in a rifle. I used to take my daughter there but I wanted something nicer/safer. $60/yr get's me and my daughter both indoor and outdoor range privileges with a guest at the Somerset Sportsmen.

When you're settled in, PM me, Ill take you to the Club ranges and Hoovers.

Nice to know about the Sportsman Club (bummer about your break-in, damn thieves) and that it's close. One of the guys at work said Hoovers was about the best in the area, I just haven't made it there yet.

PGC range is OK (but not great) for me, my son and I both have hunting licenses and we shoot mostly hunting rifles and revolvers. 3 rounds at time is a PIA with a 10/22 though. My wife shoots sometimes too.

I'll take you up on the 'tour guide offer' when we get settled.

    Thanks,

    Dale

Nice area. I've always liked the high plateau country in PA. Spent some job time in Somerset County and found the people to be tolerable good. Best wishes.

Thanks for the well wishes. My wife and I left DuBois 20 years ago for the southeast corner of the state. In many ways, Somerset is kind of like coming home for us.

    You are very welcome sir!

Im sorry we couldnt hit the outdoor range, the ground was too wet and I was afraid we'd get bogged down either trying to drive up to it or when finally parked at the range itself. Winter time isnt that bad as the ground freezes and Im able to make the drive.

    Welcome to the neighborhood!
