Default Help me pick a new AK

I'm looking to pick up a second AK-47. I already have a Lancaster 'red' built on a NODAK spud receiver.

I'd like to get something that is a step up from a WASR and found a few I think might fit the bill.

    1. Yugo M70 AB2 - classicarms has these for $650: http://www.classicfirearms.com/long-guns/yugom70ab2
    2. Zastava PAP M70 - AIMsurplus has these for $620: http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.as...fle&groupid=11

Does anyone have experience with either of these rifles? Are there any other AK's I should be looking at in the $600 - $700 price range?

    Thanks.

I'd stay away from underfolders--firing them gets old real quick.... but that's just one man's opinion there.

$600-$700 could easily get you a Chinese MAK 90. All parts made in military factory and not built from parts kits. Can't beat the chromed-line barrels and 1.6 mm receivers.

Thanks for the advise. Do you know where I can find one of these for sale?

Meh. Little para cord where your face goes fixes that. The real problem is when they get some miles on them and they get a little wiggly.

That said, I got one for a song from a guy. And it's easily my favorite one. (Polish, not Yugo). Its light, it folds up pretty neat. And everything AKM fits. Accuracy has been better than any of my others.

I didn't think I'd like it as much as I did. And I know you can get one from Atlantic for $799. Outside of that, I'd go Saiga. And just convert it back to AKM format however I saw fit. They sell ones with the front end done now in the $460-500 range. Then just add the stock of your choosing, grip etc. Moving the trigger group forward isn't very hard. Nor is it expensive.

It all depends on what you want in the end I guess.

I like my AMD as well. But those are hard to find these days with a legit barrel. And I wouldn't want one without.

I love my saiga. I ordered mine from budsgunshop and did the conversion myself. you really learn the ins and outs of the ak platform doing the conversion, and its a fun little project. the saiga IMO is quite accurate for an ak as well. I went with the 223 because one day I plan on building an ar and will be able to use the same round on each platform.

have an m70ab2 and find it a joy to shoot. rock solid, accurate and durable. i personally like the fact that it folds up into a compact package and like the looks with a wood forend.

the thicker receiver adds a little weight but it isnt a light gun to begin with. it is a good shooter but doesnt have as smooth of an action as some of the higher end guns. imo if you are going to spend 800+ dont waste it on an ak: get an ar instead. all in all i am happy with mine but i am a bit biased as i love aks in general.

    Something to consider:

    Vepr 7.62x39 16.5" barrel.

These are sweet guns. Especially for the price.

Don't spend too much time thinking about these as they are running out...

The supply of these have been really iffy over the past few years, I'm suprised they didn't run out over a week ago...
All of my guns are lubed with BACON GREASE.

AMD65 is another option. Side folder. Of the first 2 you posted I'd pick the Yugo
