Walther p 22

How much can you tell me about the Walther P22 with a 3.42 barrel ? Just picked one up. And would like to know if anyone uses one. Got this more for target then full time carry.

I had the 5" barrel version. It was a fun gun but I was not happy with accuracy. Also, the hammer didn't stay back for SA sometimes after I fired it. Didn't matter what I used in it. However, it did prove reliable in that it went off any time I pulled the trigger and never did it jam on me.

but as of the last two group shoots i have had a handful of FTF's.

Im not sure what's to blame, going to try it once the cold isnt a factor and then if necessary take it to a smith.

It's no target gun I'll tell you that much right now. It is a fun plinker. When I work from home office I plink with it in the house. Local shop had some self healing targets. I put them up on backs of doors around the house.

Pick up some calibri ammo, turn up the music and you can shoot inside the house without hearing protection or suppressor. Also good to practice clearing your house with self healing targets.

Careful with ricochets... they sort of tear up the sheet rock really badly as they go down the hallway....

A fun but inaccurate plinker. Reassembly takes some practice. I may have expected too much from it, but I had a Jennings J-22 $60 special that never jammed, was extremely accurate, went through thousands of rounds with no FTFs, and thought the Walther would somehow be superior to that.

The FTF is a known magazine issue with older models. My doesn't like copper washed hollowpoint ammo, the kind I have crates and crates of 550 round boxes of...

I have a P22. It is pretty reliable, but it does get dirty fast! Especially if your shooting Thunderbolts. Not the most accurate little gun, but tons of fun to shoot and it has that combat pistol feel. I think you'll like yours!

I too have done that with the p22 and what fun is an auto if it doesn't cycle?

My P22 needed few things done by smith to be decent gun.
Needed to have trigger bar ear filed down so that its now eating away my soft zinc alloy slide, and some polishing to feed ramp.

My P22 seems to be somewhat reliable on feeding. I really haven't had any deeding issue regardless of ammo I use.
But does have some issue with extracting. It stove pipes alot.
I'm blaming weak extracter spring and lose extracter craw(where it hooks to rim of cartrige).
There were several how to on adressing these issues, but truth be told, I sort of lost interest in the gun.

If it wasn't for the fact my GF loves the prinker, or i'm thinking adding suppressor, I'd got rid of it long time ago.
Its not accurate(certainly not in a same league as 22 pistol offering from Ruger's and S&W's), but it is fun to just shoot.
