Default looking for a .22 revolver

As soon as I sell my Ruger Mark III, I want a .22 revolver. I *thought* I wanted an LCR-22 until reading many negative reviews of stuck shell cases and poorly machined parts. I looked at the SP101 but too heavy and bulky and I read the trigger pull was outrageous. Primary purpose is extra .22 to have fun at the range, keep in the garage, and carry when out on the trail (against rabid animals and such). Need something small and reliable that will shoot all types of ammo including shorts, shot-shells, subsonic. Would like to keep it around $500. Suggestions please.

Recently picked up a ruger single six with a 5.5 inch barrel. Great little shooter if you don't mind single actions. Added benefit of using .22 mag for small game.

I was gonna suggest the SP101 because of the price range you mentioned. My other two suggestions would have been to look for a used 63 or 617 (both above 500).

There is always the Taurus models. I think the 94 and the Tracker model 970. Both under 500 if I recall correctly.

IMHO, in that price range i would go with the Ruger.

I second the idea of looking in the used gun section of your local shops.
I picked up 1950s vintage H&R 922 last year and I have a ball with it. Cost less than $100.

Be patient and look for a good used S&W K-22 or mod. 17. They don't wear out, so just about anything you find in clean condition will shoot just fine. I have a 60 year old K-22 that's as tight as a drum and shoots better than I can hold it.

    Why sell your Mk. III?

I love my S&W model 63 5" revolver. It is a sweet gun.

It is over your price range but maybe a used one is available somewhere. The 5" barrel one isn't available anymore but a 3" still is from S&W. Its a J frame.

I have a 1979 H&R 949 that I take to the range all the time. It has interchangeable cylinders to shoot both .22lr and .22 WMR. I also have a Ruger SP101 I recently acquired.

I agree, the H&R is a lot of fun. The only thing I don't like is that it is slow to load and unload as you have to eject each shell one by one. This is why I got the SP101. I originally wanted a S&W 617, but I didn't want to spend over $700 for a .22 revolver.

    S&W
    Ruger
    H&R
    Heritage

    In that order, IMO

Impossible to disassemble/reassemble. Every time I take it apart I swear it will be the last.

I like the looks of the 63 and 617. Was looking at the 317 also. Not sure of the difference between all three?

How is that working out for you?

Ejecting single shells would be a no-go for me. Agree, I def have an issue with spending $700 for a .22!

Looking on KYGunCo the 617 is $654, 317 $550, and 63 $605. The 63 seems to fit my need the best. I've seen a few described as a "kit gun". What is that?
