    Default 1911 questions

hey all, have a couple questions about the 1911 platform. first off I do not own one, but I think they are beautiful pistols. my question is, what makes them so desirable? from what I see, they are single stack mags with a very limited amount of rounds you can carry. I personally like to be able to carry as much ammo as possible in my pistol. are they just more accurate and reliable then most other pistols? I always see people saying that they would take their 1911 in any type of survival situation over any other pistol. I have a g17 with 17 round mag capacity, to me being able to have more loaded ammo seems better. but like I said, I am really curious to know why people hold them at such a high standard. beautiful gun, but what makes you take your 1911 over others?

I switched my EDC from an xdm 45 (13 rounds) to a remington r1 1911 (7 rounds) because i shot the 1911 better. I like the weight of an all steel handgun as well. To me round count doesnt matter as much as accuracy. Plus i carry two extra mags. Thats 21 rounds. If i need more than that then im in way over my head. A plus for carrying a 1911 is they are also thinner than a lot of other full sized handguns. I can conceal it better than my xdm or my m&p. Plus its just so damn sexy!

agreed on the sexiness, I hopefully will get a chance to shoot one some day and see what the hype is about.

Its much more a piece of history than say a Glock or XDm and that i am sure plays a part. Plus its simply a fantastic shooter -- even the lower end ones

Its an over all great pistol and has been for over 100 years. Its reliable and very accurate. I personally like the weight of a all steel gun with it's thiness compared to double stacked pistols. B/c of its weight it helps with recoil. But just the history behind it puts it in a class that makes it wanted.

Ive always thought of the 1911 as a gentleman's pistol. It's classic outline, heft and pointability appeal to me. I also like it's thin profile which makes it easy for EDC.

For me it's all about the trigger. A nicely polished 1911 trigger is clean, light and crisp. And that is true for all the shots - the first through the last one. I can put a quickly aimed round on target in about half the time with a 1911 then with a striker fired pistol.

And I love all the aftermarket accessories for the 1911. Grips, sights, safety, slide release, barrel and bushing, mags - you can make almost any 1911 into a bullseye pistol, a IPSC pistol, a Carry gun, etc. all without breaking the bank.

I prefer the 1911 for three reasons.
    1. Performance. (Accurate, reliable, etc.)
    2. Concealability. Its pretty easy to hide a full size 1911 even with palmswell grips. The slide and grip dimentions are slim compared to other .45 ACP pistols on the market. Slimness and a good IWB holster are what matters most for concealment.
    3. This is the tough one. There is just something about the 1911 that makes it feel like a part of your hand. No other pistol will feel as natural as a 1911 A1 in your hand. Even my HKs don't have quite the level of ergonomic magic that my Colts have. It has something to do with the fact that its a piece of steel too.

"Kill them you must. On that we are agreed... But, how Conan? They are many and you are one." The Bossonian spoke.
"Speed and stealth. Leather and Steel." Conan grated

Its the "Leather and Steel" line that holds the appeal for me.
