30-30 WIN

I never planned to reload this. I was recently surprised by my friends dad who bought me a set of dies. We both shoot Marlin 336 guns, mine is a 1980 model and his is around '89.
What are you guys loading with good success? I don't care what bullet you use I have my faves, but they will be 150gr. What powders,and primers? I have been loading for a while (9 years) so I like to think I'm beyond the basics. I say primers cause I have some magnum primers I MAY use but most likely not...what say you? I would like to stay in the 2400 FPS range and am considering H4895, IMR4064, IMR 3031

I have been away from reloading for several years, but 3031 used to be the go-to powder for 30-30.

I use Cci primers, Remington 170gr bullets and varget powder. Was just out the other day shooting the 30-30.

I use Win primers (reg, not mag) and have been working with Reloder7 in my 32 Spl. which is similar to, but better than, your 30-30 . My velocity matched what the book was saying and I was just shy of 2300 fps with 170 grain Hornady Flat Points.

I have read IMR 3031 is good, I just don't like the big stick powders anymore.

The 30/30 or 32 spl as mentioned above is not to picky on it's powders ,basically anything from 4198 through 4350 works just fine. For the lighter 150 gr the ones on the faster side of that will be the most efficient in the standard 20 inch barrel . If you want a fun,low recoil shoot all afternoon load get some cast bullets .310 dia. And try 8-10 grs of unique , they make for excellent practice.

I'm using accurate 4064 over 4895 for a 243 load that I'm developing at work for the USDA because it has a wider range of tolerance of temperature.

I don't like big stick powders because they meter like dog shit.

I have used both 3031 and Varget and like them both. 99% of the time I use CCI standard primers but have used Mag Primers a time or two with no issues. I was told that Mag primers work better in the cold but they worked the same.

Animalmother is that my 243 I sold you? How does 4064 and 4895 compare to 4350 and 4831sc in size?

Bingo! By big stick I mean IMR 3031, 4064, 4350 etc. I use the shorter sticks like IMR 4895, IMR 4320, H4831SC or 'ball' stuff like TAC.
