I'm sure Darren is a great guy, and a true libertarian. I know now that we have met in Phoenixville. What I would like to know is how he was chosen to speak in this forum to represent the ethical side of gun rights? He is a free man, and can do what he wants. My question only comes from the position of gun owner in this case. What training, education or influence does he have to represent gun owners in an ethics discussion. Why would he?
    Hi Dan,

I have to correct you on a couple of things, I never was an Occupy supporter. This blog entry is highly critical of them: http://theinternationallibertarian.b...that-left.html

Also, I've never been part of the Ron Paul movement. The LP yes.

As to your other questions, I don't know that they have much of a process for finding speakers. I was chosen because I started going to their Meetups & they liked my style (though not always my POV).

I don't see myself as representing gun owners as much as representing a philosophy. While libertarians & conservatives agree on gun rights how we arrive at that conclusion & how we defend it can be very different. No doubt when you see the video you'll shake your head at some of what I say.

As to my opponent I'm pretty sure this is her http://www.chc.edu/directories/faculty/Kimberley_Leahy/ Though you can see that she's not using a current pic in that profile :-) http://www.meetup.com/thinkingsociet...592/#181677112 She never said anything about belonging to any anti gun groups.

A talk I gave on Saturday using points from the debate: http://theinternationallibertarian.b...rty-video.html

BTW, the debate organizers still haven't posted the video yet.

Thanks, so far I've only gotten good feedback. With such a controversial subject I expected more opposition.

I just don't see what there is to debate. When I meet an anti I simply inform them that there are millions of peaceful gun owners who simply won't be disarmed without first using them. They don't debate but they can shoot very well.

    Your move.
