Re: Who does cerakote?
Very well. I Cerakoted a persons S&W 442 18-24 months ago and it is carried every day and it shows no appreciable wear.

Perhaps it's just an unflattering photographic effect but the frame of that 226 shown a few frames back appears to have somewhat of what you would call an "orange Peel" effect going on. Am I not seeing that correctly or is that perhaps some type of mottling from stripping off the old finish?
I was considering getting my P6 cerakoted, but if it didn't come out smooth like the frame was when anodized at the factory, I would be mostly disappointed and having a talk about it. Maybe it's just because of the aluminum frame and that Cerakote lies differently on aluminum? Because the slide looks satiny smooth to me.
Anyone else note this in those pictures? Anyone have an explanation?Last edited by Karl Hungus; June 28th, 2013 at 08:27 AM.

Re: Who does cerakote?
I saw the same thing as you. Kinda looks like a piece of metal from sand cast. Haven't handled Sigs to much to know it that's what its from. I know in order for cerakote to take hold the surface cannot be smooth it needs to be etched. I'm also looking into cerakote. Any of use that do it know how well the cerakote clear holds up to wear. Is it as strong as the colored or not?

Re: Who does cerakote?
i was thinking of having a machined aluminum can done in a glossy black, i was wondering if the finish would do well on such a thing and what it would cost? there is next to no dis assembly as it's only one major piece and 2 smaller pieces.

Re: Who does cerakote?
Cerakote has a high-temp application version of it, which if I'm not mistaken can be mixed with additional hardener agent to make it more glossy. I'm just getting into cerakote application myself along with other types of finishes.
It's great on cans though, I've seen several done with cerakote and as long as you use the high temp stuff it works very well.

Re: Who does cerakote?
A company called Cummings Custom Refinishing does it at a decent price.
