I keep all detachable magazines that I own loaded.
I don't think a burglar, mafia hitman, invading soldier, or government agent/troop will wait for me to load them so that I can shoot back at them.RIP: SFN, 1861, twoeggsup, Lambo, jamesjo, JayBell, 32 Magnum, Pro2A, mrwildroot, dregan, Frenchy, Fragger, ungawa, Mtn Jack, Grapeshot, R.W.J., PennsyPlinker, Statkowski, Deanimator, roland, aubie515

Re: Keep ammo loaded in AR mags or in boxes in safe?
Ammo goes in the mags and then in the safe. Boxes go in the garbage. Empty mags are paper weights.
If they are regular mags and you keep the bolt of your gun closed load the mags to -1 or 29 to help the mag seat easier. If they are pmags you can probly load 30.
Some people have issues with the above some do not. YMMV.
If your guns are in a safe I'd keep them loaded also. But your choice there.Last edited by DucatiRon; October 15th, 2012 at 05:15 PM.

It wont hurt the ammo or the magazines to leave them loaded for extended periods of time.If you have no need to have the mags loaded for defensive reasons leaving the ammo in boxes wont hurt anything either. Your call ,Your situation. Myself I have two mags loaded near the weapon the rest of my ammo is stored in ammo cans

Re: Keep ammo loaded in AR mags or in boxes in safe?
I keep 3 mags loaded for 233 and 7,62x39 in safe. Along with few boxes of same ammo. Don't think I will ever need more than that. Either they will get me by surprise or I will get them with what is loaded...

Have loaded mags for everything that takes mags.

Re: Keep ammo loaded in AR mags or in boxes in safe?
When I served in army back in 91-93 we were told that spring is getting weak after being compressed for a long period of time. I don't know if springs are different now but I still play it safe and rotate loaded mags once a week.
