Without a manual to know for sure, I'd say it sounds a little warm. My heavies for the same gun w/5 1/2" tube are Sierra 300 gr JFP, or Hornady 300gr XTP over 22grs of W-296. They're stout, but only used for hunting...

22grs. of 2400 behind a keith 255gr. lead bullet is a very hot .44 mag. load. Sounds way too hot for me.

What is H2400? The only 2400 propellant that I know of is Alliant 2400.
The Lyman manual lists 16.5 grains of 2400 as a maximum load for a 250 grain jacketed bullet.
Nosler lists 20.3 as Max. Sierra lists 22 grs as Max for a 240 grain bullet. Hornady lists 20.8 as Max for a 250.
How did you come up with 26 grains?
STOP shooting.

Re: 45 Colt, Ruger Blackhawk, 26gr. H2400, 250 gr JHP?
My mistake. I don't even have any 2400. I got this load from a deer hunting friend. 26 gr. H110 '250 gr JHP. I loaded these last fall and only fired one. I made this post to see if anyone had ever loaded a 45Colt this hot .
This load is 4 gr. light on a 454 with 250 gr JHP and H110.

Get a copy of the Sept 2012 Shooting Times. It has a great article about reloading for the .45 Colt and incidently shows a load for strong single action revolvers like Ruger Blackhawk as opposed to loads for the SAA & clones.
For 2400, they stop at 22.5 grains. For the same type of revolver, my Speer #14 stops at 20 grs. I suggest you do the same, that is stop.

Go here to get the data you need for Hodgdon Powders.
http://www.hodgdon.com/basic-manual-inquiry.html
You'll find this load is listed as Maximum for a 250 gr jacketed bullet. It is generally bad practice to base a load for any given caliber on a reduction of a more powerful caliber. Even if one is the parent of the other.

Found the H110 load in the Hodgdon manual. 26 gr. is a little under max. Think I will go to the range.
Sorry about my mistake on the H2400 ?
