looking to replace the scope on my Super Blackhawk
I am looking to replace the Red Dot scope on my Ruger Super Black hawk. I don't have much knowledge on scopes let alone on a pistol.
This one doesn't hold zero and I can't find any info on it really. It is an Illusion by Lazeraim. The tubes on both ends were loose so i removed it tonight and tightened the tubes up to the center section and reinstalled the assembly and that might help however I still think replacement will be my plan no matter what.
The mount is a Burris and the rings are 1" the top of the frame has been drilled and tapped for the mount so the Burris stays.

I've had good results with my Burris 2x. Personally I wouldn't go any higher than 2x, particularly on a revolver.

You say you don't know a lot about guns or scopes. I will tell you that unless you are a very good shot off of a rest and know for sure that your base is secured to your gun, properly, as well as the scope being mounted to the base, properly, there is no way to determine if it will not hold zero. Are you sure everything is mounted, correctly, and is tight?

Oh yea, flinching when you shoot, even a little, and even if it is on some type of rest, it will give you the impression that your scope is not holding zero. To see if you are flinching, even a little, shoot a pistol that is sighted in (iron sights) at 21 feet, off of a rest. If you can see good enough, you should get no more than a 1" group, 1.5 at the worst. I don't know of a single modern handgun that will not print a 1" group at 21 feet off of a rest, as long as you are not flinching or jerking the trigger. I don't mean to over explain this, I just don't know how steady of a shooter you are.

Re: looking to replace the scope on my Super Blackhawk
I had a 1.5-4x scope on my S&W 629 of Japanese manufacture. I am not sure of the brand, may be no longer in existence. I fired 12 rounds and the lenses separated from the tube inside.
I returned it to the manufacturer who sent me a NEW one I assume. Well, that one only lasted 5 rounds.
Needless to say I returned it to the LGS where I had initially bought it and replaced it with a Burris 1.5-4x scope and have had no problems whatsoever.
My point is to mount a good quality scope on your revolver.
44 magnum and larger pound a scope.
I recommend only 2x as the higher magnifications are hard to keep steady.

Re: looking to replace the scope on my Super Blackhawk
I have 2 44 magnum handguns with scopes mounted on them. One has a Leopuld 2x and the other a Leopuld 4x.
I much prefer the 2x.
I have a 22 revolver wit a red dot scope and would prefer to have a regular magnifying scope on it.

If you are looking for a good red dot, go to your local gun store and get a sales person to show you different models and why the prices are different. Shopping online is terrible if you have no idea what you want. I know many people shy away from sales people, yet they are supposed to be knowledgabe on their product.
When it comes to optics, (and everything else) one gets what one pays for. Pick a good shop and talk to a knowledgable sales person and ask questions. Hold the items, look through them... try it on before you buy it so to speak.Join the groups protecting your rights from the fools trying to take them from you!
