Default Ardennes Offensive (NHRPC November WW II Themed Practical Rifle Match)

    Date: Winter 1944.

AOR: The densely forested Ardennes mountain region of Belgium, France and Luxembourg on the Western Front.

Objective: Split the British and American Allied line in half, capturing Antwerp and then proceed to encircle and destroy four Allied armies, forcing the Western Allies to negotiate a peace treaty in the Axis Powers' favor.

Planned with the utmost secrecy, minimizing radio traffic and moving troops and equipment under cover of darkness; the Axis armies have launched a surprise offensive against the Allies. Despite the Third Army's intelligence staff prediction for a major German offensive, the Allies are caught by surprise; achieved by a combination of overconfidence, preoccupation with their own offensive plans, and poor aerial reconnaissance. Fierce resistance, particularly around the key town of Bastogne, and terrain favoring the defenders has led to “The Ardennes Offensive”; where the balance of power and the fate of the war hangs in the balance.

New Holland Rifle and Pistol Club will be hosting a World War II themed action shoot on Saturday, November 10th 2012.

This will be a two gun event, utilizing rifle and pistol.
We will have two separate classes of shooters, Infantry and Marksman.
The concept is to employ period rifles and pistols, but we will allow modern rifles and pistols with a few caviats:
Infantry will use iron sights only.
Marksmen may use a mechanical scope.
All rifles will be limited to no more than 10rds loaded in a gun at one time, pistols limited to no more than 9rds; as was common with period firearms in keeping with the spirit of this event. If someone wants to run a period SEMI-AUTO subgun (Thompson or grease gun etc) or a modern SEMI-AUTO subgun (.45 or 9mm), they would be allowed to run full mags, as they did in the war. The one thing we are excluding is any kind of electronic optic.
Only participants with period firearms will be eligible for our small token prizes.

Participants should also plan to carry all their gear they need for the entire match on their person for the entire day. If you're shooting a pistol stage, your rifle will be slung over your back (flagged and safe of course). Ammo in pouches or a pack. Just like the troops did.

The match will be scored using IDPA like rules, points down = time added to your raw time to complete each stage.

    Registration info to follow soon…

Registration for the Ardennes Offensive is OPEN!!!

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...VnZOUkJHelE6MQ

Please fill out all fields with accurate information. Note that you have to scroll up to see the acknowledgment of receipt after you hit submit.

If you have any interesting piece of equipment from WWII that you could bring, please let us know.

Looks like the round counts will be around 55rds rifle, and 37rds pistol. These are minimums, so plan accordingly …

A note from Matt, the MD:

**UPDATE** Just wanted to clarify a point, based on several questions that I have been asked regarding this match. A period firearm is NOT required to shoot this match. If you have a period pistol, but not a rifle; that’s OK! Run a modern rifle with iron sights and 10rds in the magazine. Have a period rifle, but no pistol; that’s OK too. Run a modern pistol with 8+1. Have neither, but want to check out everyone else’s collection; bring out your EBR and Tupperware pistol, and compete alongside these living pieces of history. This will be a fun match no matter what you shoot, and we are not going to ban anyone who’s 1911 is outside of a specific serial number range. This is intended to be fun; not a historically correct reenactment. So if you are on the fence, please come out and join us for the fun. I assure you as match director for the day; that my kit will be anything but historically correct.

Quick question - if bringing a semi version of a Subgun - would that be used in lieu of the pistol?

So it would then be rifle and subgun?

    Thanks!

No, the other way around..... the subgun would be your long arm.

There is only one long stage so you would have a lot of fun running a pistol cal subgun.

I'm not sure if you mean a "REAL" select-fire subgun. If so, it has to be fired only in semi-auto.

    Thanks for clarifying.

My understanding is that you guys frown on bringing out real subguns, even if it can be fired in Semi-mode - too much chance of choosing the wrong switch/trigger. Therefore, this would only be open to 'semi-auto only' version of subguns - does that make sense?

    Thanks!

    George

    Not really.

If you can shoot it on semi-auto, the range rules say it can be fired.

Fully automatic fire, and devices that simulate it are prohibited by club rules.

All guns get a smile. We try and reserve the frowns for any unsafe activity.
