    Default hogs?

I hear PA is getting a few hogs. Does anyone know where someone might go and shoot a few?

    pa 2012 hunting digest.

    FERAL SWINE
Feral swine have no place in Pennsylvania. They pose a very real threat to native Pennsylvania wildlife and wildlife habitats. Not only do they damage wildlife habitats, but they will kill birds, the young of many mammalian species, and transmit a host of dangerous diseases. Because they have no natural predators, can live anywhere, and reproduce rapidly, they will be difficult to control in the best of circumstances.
In some areas of the state, protection may be removed from feral swine by an executive order of the director; however, to increase the efficiency of eradication efforts, protection may be applied to townships or counties where eradication trapping operations are being actively conducted. If you think you may encounter a feral swine, refer to our website (www.pgc.state.pa.us) for specific details on townships or counties that may have restrictions on incidental shooting of feral swine. Firearm and archery equipment are restricted to lawful arms and ammunition identified in the Game & Wildlife Code Sec. 2308. If you kill a feral swine, contact the nearest region office within 24 hours, so samples can be collected for disease testing.

2011 PSGC press release page 120ish release number 035-11

Licensed hunters, including those who qualify for license and fee exemptions, are eligible to participate in the unlimited incidental taking of feral swine. Hunters may use manually- operated rifles, revolvers or shotguns, as well as muzzleloaders, bows and crossbows. All other methods and devices legal for taking feral swine must be conducted and/or used in compliance with the provisions of Section 2308 of Title 34 (Game and Wildlife Code), which can be viewed on the agency’s website (www.pgc.state.pa.us) by putting your cursor on the “The Law” tab in the menu bar at the top of the homepage and then click on “Title 34: Game and Wildlife Code.”
Additionally, the agency may issue permits to authorize individuals to engage in feral swine trapping operations, including the U.S. Department of Agriculture Wildlife Services. Feral swine trapping, by permitted individuals, will only be allowed from the close of the flintlock muzzleloading season in mid-January to the beginning of spring gobbler season, and from the end of spring gobbler season until the beginning of archery deer season.
Any person who kills a feral swine must report it to the Game Commission Region Office that serves the county in which the harvest took place within 24 hours. The swine carcass must then be made available to agency personnel, who will gather samples to monitor for the presence of disease.

For the moment being, yes. Call or meet in person with your state rep to talk to them about changing it. They need to hear from us individually to let them know we want the law changed.

It seems like the PGC just wants them shot if we run across them while hunting somthing else.

Why are they not saying where the populations are? Ive heard rumors, but nothing official.

Do they not want us actively hunting them?

The PGC has been playing this game for what, 5 years now?

Just because you dont know or understand the reason doesnt make it a game.

If your huniting and see one they want it shot. But to target them becomes a problem, The more pressure you put on them the more they disperse. Last thing anyone wants is these things dispersing.

Don't you thing its a lost cause at this point?

The animals are already out there, breeding and tearing stuff up as pigs do. I find it hard to believe that they are just gonna stay where they are.

Does the PGC actually believe they can trap them all and eradicate them?

Where are all these feral hogs that are breeding and tearing things up like crazy?

I've yet to see, or hea,r about any on the Western half of the state. All anyone ever seems to know is that "out in eastern pa" they have some.

Lost cause? Hardly seems to be an issue yet.
