Re: 2012 Archery Report
After waking up late I wandered up to the pines, after almost stepping on a bunny I peeked in the field rearranging stand.... looks clear maybe they didn't come through yet.
I get 35yds from my stand look into the field on the other side of the tree line and was instantly picked off by a really nice 8pt who promtly gave me the tail and boogied into the vally :-(
Stayed out till 1030 when Xmas tree workers showed up making all kinds of noise. Oh, and I seen 5 squirrels lolZRT: SECTOR 3(SNIPER) Among othe tasks...

Re: 2012 Archery Report
1 scrubby 6pt at 40 yards around 8am. The shape and size of his rack looks remarkably similar to a scrubby 5pt I saw throughout the entire 2011 season.
7 Turkeys, 3 raccoons, and the ever present squirrels.
Had a rough start to this season. On my way to my stand I walk down a steep bank, across a black-top road and into the woods on the other side. In three years of hunting this spot I've never fallen down that bank, until today. Took a header into the blacktop. Scraped up my hand, broke my quiver right off my bow, snapped two arrows, and ripped a hole in my pants and longjohns scraping my kneecap. Now my darn leg doesn't want to bend and I need a new quiver.
Upside is that my HHA single pin wasn't knocked off even by a fall like that.
Hope to have some better news on Monday.

Re: 2012 Archery Report
Got in the woods nice and early. Spooked one before sunlight. Thought that was awesome that there was at least something in my neighborhood. Around 730or 8 a small doe spooks me and walks right next to my stand. I wait until it gets within about 30yds and I take a shot. It goes low and I miss. Doe strolls out of the woods. I thought I would wait for a while before I went to retrieve my arrow. Around 930 I stand up to get ready to climb down. 2 large doe are staring right at me. So I wait to see if they will get within range. They Walked a very short distance and bed down. If I had a gun I would have filled all of my tags at this point. I waited until about 1130 watching them and decided I had to take a leak too badly and climbed down. They trotted off. There were 20 + squirrell chasing each other, fattening themselves up for 2 weeks from now. A groundhog that my dad has been begging me to kill walked under my tree stand and waddled down the trail. Went to mcconnells mill with the family around noon. Got back in the woods at 530. Heard the usual squirrell ruckus. All of a sudden, I hear something hiss at me. It was a mother and fawn walking right up behind me. They were too far for a shot so I watched them for a while. I figured that would be the last bit of game I would see for the night. Then, 10 turkey come strutting through. This has never happened in the 16years I've been hunting there. So I watch them walk around and they took off to roost in the near by trees.
I missed my shot, but had a blast watching all the critters cruising the woods.

Re: 2012 Archery Report
I got a goose egg. Maybe I stepped in dog crap on the way to my stand, or maybe it was the chili I ate the night before. Who knows. I did see a few huge owls, one almost landed on a branch next to me and then spotted me as it was going to land and took off. I saw a hawk nail a squirrel. That's the extent of my day. The best was the walk out, Ranger, I got you beat. I took a face plant going down a very rocky steep hill. Broke my quiver, bent my sight, popped out my peep sight, and bent one of my cams. Needless to say beat the tar out of my self. I'm lucky I didn't break anything. Wow what a great opening day. Lol

Re: 2012 Archery Report
My son and I got in our trees early Sat morning. I heard a noise over my right shoulder and though I made out the image of a deer but it was dark. I honestly thought that I was seeing spots from turning my neck that far so I just slowly turned and sat tight. 10 min later I heard a noise over my left shoulder. As I turned, the buckle on my safety harness made a small "clank" noise and two deer took off. It was still too dark to shoot but they were within 20 yds of me.
My son claimed there were 276 pics on the trail cam near his spot. I thought he was reading it wrong since the cam had only been out for a week. We checked the cam and he was right. There are all sorts of deer in the area and the cam was catching as many as 5 at a time. One little button buck loves posing for pics too. Unfortunately all of the pictures start at around 7:30 PM and end at around 3-4 AM. They are thick at night but disappear after that. Walking in at 5 AM is rather pointless. We have to figure out where these are bedding."The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of 'liberalism,' they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened."

Re: 2012 Archery Report
That sucks man, sorry to hear it. A couple little scrapes and scratches, but the Hoyt Razortec is still going strong for me, just a little less pretty.
Damaging the bow like that would make me cry. If you don't have a back up bow you'll be in for buying a new one, tuning, new sight, tuning, and all during hunting season :-/ I'm sorry man.

Re: 2012 Archery Report
Opening day - Saw a huge doe in a field maybe 40 yards from where I was sitting, another doe with a fawn in tow walked past me and my buddy. Spooked up an 8 pointer who took off into the woods and never came back... If it rains on tuesday and my work gets rained out, Ill be in the woods again. Why did I not sink an arrow into the first doe? Because Im an ass and forgot to send in for my damn doe tags......
