Default 223 cost $100 more than a year ago.

In the winter of 2011 i bought a case of Federal 223 from Nanchez for $300, That same case is now $399!!! That's crazy! A $100 increase in just a year!

It's an election year. Subsequently, there is an election in <40 days.

Stores know that there are are people who freak out and buy bulk everything gun related come election time. You can bet they can and will cash in on it.

I was cleaning out the garage and came across a Sportsman's Guide from 1999. You would weep like a little girl if you saw those ammo prices!

Supply and demand coupled with the fear of the possibility of 4 more years of "change"

.223 does not cost $100 more than a year ago. You are talking about one brand from one retailer. And Natchez was one of the worst gougers during the last presidential election.

You can get PMC and also Federal XM193 or Federal American Eagle for $310. Which is not only about the same as a year ago, it's also $50-$100 cheaper than 2-4 years ago during the few years when prices peaked.

    Start here:

Cheaper ammo is in shorter supply now so you have to be patient and move fast. I've had very good luck at gun shows. Which is amazing in this decade. But I haven't been to one in about 3 months and it would surprise me if the prices have gone up.

Look into reloading. The best ammunition investment I've ever made.

My local gun shop has PMC bronz at 7.50 a box all day long so I just buy it there. At 350 per 1000 that comes to 7 a box. So thats a $25 difference if I were buying 50 boxes but then add in shipping costs and the paranoia of having my name out there for buying bulk ammo. Not a bad deal. The crazy thing is that at my other 2 shops that same box of PMC is just about $10. Freaking ridiculous.
