    Question reloading 9 mm Makarov?

I have a bunch of 9mm luger brass and would like to reload for the 9mm Makarov. It looks doable if I trim brass length to Makarov length. Has anyone tried this?
    Thanks
    Chuck

Considering the Makarov is 9x18 vs 9x19 do you have to use a special resized die or is the Makarov resize die all that is required?

Also, the base diameter, rim diameter, and rim thickness all differ between these two rounds. Are you sure trimmed 9mm brass will work? Every possible dimension between these rounds is different.

You use a 9x18 expander die to open the brass up to the larger diameter 9x18 projectile first. Full length resize. Then you'll have to trim the 9x19 to 9x18.

The x19 and x18 is the length of the case.

    9x19 Parabellum(luger) shoots a .355" bullet. 9x18 Mak shoots a .363" bullet.

You have to expand the 9x19 brass to accommodate the 9mm Mak's larger diameter bullets, and also trim the brass down.

You're right. I obviously should be sleeping as I'm not thinking clearly! I was even picturing the larger case mouth in my mind but it just wasn't registering.

So what about the rim differences? Is it enough to matter?

    Thanks for the correction!

Its minor. Not worth worrying about. I'd be more concerned about the Mak's .001" larger diameter case - but the 9mmPara's thicker walls offsets that.

Never knew others are doing this. Now, I'm gonna be concerned picking up brass. The headstamp would say 9mm Luger/9x19, but it could have been trimmed-down.

I have to pay more attention to case length. It's good thing I have a case gauge.

what happens if you pick up range brass someone had cut down, you take it home and load it for 9mm? i don't check every 9mm case length, looks like i will have to start. can it cause any damage?
what would happen if you take a 9mm head stamped makarov and reload it for 9mm?
