    Default Glock lubrication issues.

    Greetings.

    I recently purchased a new Glock 19 3rd gen.

This is my first time owning a Glock, and I know nothing about them as far a cleaning and lubrication goes. I've searched many of forums before posting a thread on here, but to no avail. There are many conflicting opinions as to what can be used, what others like to use and so on.

Today I bought safariland break-free CLP. My time in the military has taught me that CLP will get the job done, but something about "all in one" solutions just doesn't sit right with me.

My choices so far for lubrication are gun butter, weapon shield and G-Lube. What do you guys think? Are any of those good choices? Also, can somebody tell me what the copper based lube on the inside of the slide is? And where I can get some? And what is a product to keep the outside of the slide nice and shiny?

    Thank you.

Breakfree CLP sucks balls, and if there is anybody that doesn't know how to maintain firearms, it is the military. I learned that the hard way like you did.

Good news is it is a Glock. It doesn't really need anything. However, I would clean it and lubricate it not only for the 0.0001% chance it does anything but more to inspect it for wear and parts.

The key to lubricating a Glock is as little as possible. I really think this oldschool dude has some pretty good advice:

If you find something better from anybody smarter then go with it.

    Thank you.

I read what that man had to say, and the 5 drop rule does make sense.

But what lubricant do you use? What would be the best choice for a Glock? I was thinking that if Ballistol is good enough for Hickok45, then it's good enough for me!

I use Hoppes because it has worked for me for 30 years and never gummed up and seized a gun (unlike CLP).

It is thin, I am sure there is better. It will burn off after thousands of rounds in a FA M16, but I add more. Maybe you can find something better.

Use anything that won't cause harm. Glocks don't really need much lube. We are just being nice to them

I've gone the full synthetic wheel bearing grease on everything I own, now. Doesn't make a mess. Stays put. Super slippery. Performs in hot or cold weather. Do not use this stuff if you are trying to break in a stiff gun. It'll never come in.
BCM and Glock...for a bigger pile of 'cold dead hands' brass.

Primary rule: don't overdo it. Glocks only need minimal lubrication. I use Wilson Ultima-Lube oil.

    Here are the lube points:

Oh My God! Lube a Glock ? Just where are you concealing that thing?

Just kidding ! remember that during the break-in period don't do anything and DO NOT remove the copper colored stuff on the rails ! after that if you ev er clean it, just 1 drop in each of the places that rubs.

P.S. I use whatever I happen to have (oil-wise) around the house (including castrol synthetic 10w20 ) mine's been running 25 years now without hiccups.

I use weapon shield grease cut with copper anti-seize. Drop of weapon shield oil on the barrel. Just a nip of the grease / copper mix right at the barrel hood where it locks into the slide.

After a few thousand rounds the gun still looks brand new. Never had an issue.
