Default My step dad wants to sell his long guns?

I realize I'm a "newb" with minimal posts. I'm just trying to help him get market value, instead of taking them to a commercial auction.

He has two rather pristine Fox/Stevens double barrels in .16 & .410 gauge and a Winchester bolt action .22 that he bought as a kid. (He's in his late 70's.)

Is it OK to post them in the classifieds for a possible face to face sale?

I'll get the exact model #'s and try to determine age via. serials beforehand.

    Thanks for any advise/input.

(I honestly want the .410, but I think it's out of my $$ league.)

You could post them on the classifieds but if they are 'high end' guns an auction 'may' be a better venue. Every time I go things seem to sell for WAY more than I see similar items sell for on the net.

I have some friends @ my club that are big SxS guys. If you want to PM me with more info and I can asked them. They may even be interested in buying them.
Heck, I may be interested myself. I love SxS's.

Conservatively, you're looking at about $500-$600 each... Note, that is how much they are worth, retail. To sell them, you might get someone to pay $450 each for them in the real world...

Armed with that information, he should just give you the .410 lol

A good reference is Gun Digest's Book of Modern Gun Values.

You can often pick it up at Walmart or on Amazon. There's even a Kindle version.

Just don't fall into the trap of over-estimating their condition, or you'll never sell them.

Most sellers do badly over-price used guns. Some buyers over-pay, then become over-priced sellers in a few years
