Commander length 1911s. School me please
So I have been really wanting a commander length 1911 lately. I know there are a lot of choices out there. What I really want is a Dan Wesson VBOB. At $1700 that is not happening for quite a while.
This in hard chrome has been calling me for a few weeks.

Anyone know anything about them or have personal experience? I have found some favorable reviews.
What others should I maybe take a look at? I have shot a Para I liked. Not sure of the model though.
Who else makes an affordable ($700 or less) commander 1911? Must be chambered in .45ACP.
Don't want to hear squat about Kimber.

Can't go wrong with a rock island. Last I saw they were around 420ish. Plenty of room left in your budget for ammo, holster, and any other goodies you may want.

Can't seem to ever find them in commander length. Officers and Government are plentiful.
Do they come in a chrome, stainless or nickel finishes?

Yeah your right even buds is sold out of them now. I saw them in stock not that long ago. I wouldn't be surprised if they become available again soon.
I know they have full sized in stainless, I've never seen a commander in stainless from rock island, so I couldn't say for sure.
Check Sarco in Easton, I know they deal with a lot of rock island's and usually have plenty in stock. I believe you can check their inventory online.

Dan Wesson (CZ) makes a great gun.
The VBOB is the valor series and is a great pistol.
I found one in stainless for 1542 at budsgunshop.com
Other brands to consider in that range/quality would be Wilson, Les Baer, and STI.Voluntary transactions are the only moral kind.

Re: Commander length 1911s. School me please
Just looked online at the Spartan IV. Nice gun but only in a parked finish.
1911s for me gotta be in a silver look.
Saw the Ranger II. Very nice. Out of my range though. Plus an extra $300 for hard chrome. At that price I'd just get the VBOB.
Does anyone have experience with the Metro Arms Classic Commander that I linked to in my OP?

Citidel fully dressed and commander size for $499 maybe $599 SS. A lot of people like that pistol and its in 45acp. Its far off from a DWA 1911 but you will be shooting quicker then having to wait to raise $1700.
