Default Finally a good one encounter that was not an encounter

Well, after a few years without an encounter, I still have been not been bothered since I moved out of the Poconos. But, my daughter needs book covers for school. So, the XYL, my daughter, and I head out to Kutztown to pick some up. After six stores, and not one store had them. I need gas, so I stopped at Turkey Hill. Once I pull in, I notice the police SUV parked there, and I said to the wife maybe we should get gas tomorrow. However, her response was who cares, so off I go to prepay. The LEO was standing at the door when I walked in, and did not say a word. I prepaid my fuel, and headed out. On the way out he just said hi and nodded. That was the extent of it.

I got to say, I like the area I'm in now much better then the Pocono's. Up north it seemed weekly I had some jack booted thug needing to express his dismay at OC. Down here I have not had a negative issue yet.

I don't know if it's just the tendencies of people posting nowadays or if things are slowly starting to turn around, but it seems like there have been more positive encounters posted on here lately than negative ones. Hopefully, that's a sign of changing times with people becoming more OC friendly. I know that there's always going to be those lunatics that think that all guns are bad and if you have a gun you must be bad, too; or the cop who thinks that only cops should be allowed to carry guns. Those things, at least as far as my all-seeing eye can see, are never going to completely go away. I just hope this trend continues of more neutral/positive encounters and less negative ones.

Staples carries book covers. I don't know if there's one near you, but I know they carry them. I used to work for them up until earlier this year. I worked at three different stores, and book covers are one of their hottest selling items during the back-to-school season. They get TONS of them.

On a side note, whatever happened to using paper bags? It was easy, cheap, and had the advantage of being able to doodle on them and write your class schedule on them. But now I find out that most schools don't let you do that anymore.

Schools won't let you use paper bags as book covers? Since when? And why? Those worked best. They were free, durable as hell, and like you said, they were great to doodle on. So now you have to go out and buy them? What's their criteria on an "acceptable" book cover?

I don't know. All I know is, when working at Staples, I had several families ask me where book covers were that also mentioned to me how ridiculous it was that the schools wouldn't let their children use paper bags.

I started hearing this complaint about two years ago.

That wouldn't actually surprise me if that's the truth. But consider how many schools buy new books every year, work books that get pages torn out in the lower grades. Schools are some of the biggest tree murderers out there.
