Black powder cannons?
Was at Ace Sporting Goods in "Lil' Washington" awhile back and they had what looked to be a 1/6th scale .69cal blackpowder Civil War cannon. I think years ago Dixie or CVA made these, not sure who makes them these days.
Anyway, it was sharp looking as can be, but it was like, AR-15 money IIRC.
Does anyone have any experiance with these bp cannons? And especially - if there are more affordable versions of these out there?
TIA!

Re: Black powder cannons?
A while back, a good friend of mine had a bp cannon made and gave it to me. It was made from 3" brass and is .50 cal. Probably doesn't help you any, but just thought I would share. It was really cheap to me.

A friend and I shoot blackpowder cannons pretty often. We have one with a 1" bore and another with a 1.5" bore. They are a lot of fun to shoot. You can buy the barrels online and have them shipped to you. All you have to do is drill out a touch hole and build a carrage. I think our 1" was about $300-350 and the 1.5" was if i remember correctly around $500. With a little time and effort they can turn very well.

Re: Black powder cannons?
I have a Winchester Signal Cannon. It fires 10 guage black powder blanks.
Most people think it is a carbide cannon at first look.
But once you pull the string and it fires there are a whole lot of startled people looking at you. Oh and the smoke it generates is impressive for such a little gun.

Re: Black powder cannons?
I have a scale BP cannon of a Naval ships cannon that I made in High school. It is 75 cal. smooth bore. I have not fired it in 10 years, but it is fun to fire. If you aim it right you can hit what you are aiming at.
The truth shall set you free.

Or here:

It's the Napoleon cannon in 69 caliber (link - manual). Like another poster opined, it's cheaper just to buy an AR or AK. Here's one being fired:
Traditions doesn't appear to be a manufacturer, they import and distribute products mostly from Ardesa of Spain. Here's Ardesa's ad for the Napoleon III/69 cal:

You can buy one here:

Here's my 69 cal cannon. It was a *lot* cheaper, and much more portable.

Re: Black powder cannons?
Thanks all for the replies!
It looks like the Traditions (or Ardesa) cannon was the exact same one I seen at Aces.
It was nice lookin, but even with the decorative appeal, too EXPENSIVE to justify. No wonder you don't see these at your typical local gunshops.

Re: Black powder cannons?
Dixie has a few in different degrees of "finished", and quality, ranging up to some pretty large and expensive pieces. They are also, of course, large and heavy and expensive to ship.

Re: Black powder cannons?
I bought one last year at the Harrisburg gun show.
It cost about $250 and is matte black.
I consider it entry level but it is fun.
I believe it is .68 caliber and can take lead balls.
I just shoot wadding out of it, big fun.
