Is selling deer antlers legal?
I know there are restrictions on selling game, dead or alive, but what about parts? There are people who buy hides every year so it must be legal, at least the way they're doing it. Is there any special permit required?
The reason I'm asking is because I have some antlers that I've never mounted and would like to get rid of them at the flea market or a yard sale and I want to be sure I don't run afoul of the law in any way.
Thanks in advance for any factual information.
Citation of law or links to such would be appreciated if applicable and available.

I don't have an answer for you one way or another but they sell them in the Burtons Total Pet by me... they are expensive as all hell but my dog loves to eat them!

Re: Is selling deer antlers legal?
I was hoping to get a quick simple answer here but as it turns out there is no quick simple answer. I called the Game Commission and found out firsthand that it is indeed illegal except under certain circumstances.
Here's the abbreviated version paraphrased from our conversation this morning.
(This is specifically in regard to inedible game parts such as antlers, hooves, etc.).
It is illegal to sell inedible game parts with a few exceptions.
Parts from legally harvested game may be sold within 90 days of the closing of the season in which that game was harvested.
A finished product which utilizes the part as a component of the finished product, such as a knife with a handle made of bone or antler may be sold.
Mounts and some other items may be sold through a licensed auction house but there may be restrictions and a special permit may be required.
Legally acquired parts that do not fall into the restriction of being within 90 days after the close of the season in which they are harvested may be given away if they are truly given away for free and not as a contingent or incentive connected to any other sale.
There is a lot more to it than that but for my purpose it tells me that it's not legal for me to put my small collection of scrawny antlers out at my yard sale and try to sell them.
I don't have a short temper, I just have a quick reaction to bullshit.

Tape a pencil to each one and sell them as "custom writing implements" with natural bone handles.

Re: Is selling deer antlers legal?
I collect sheds, and make stuff out of them. One of the things that little kids in my neighborhood and Church really like is hat/coat racks. Take one side of a shed, drill two holes in it, and drive a pair of screws through it into the wall. Voila', hat/coat rack. Give them out to the little kids and they will NOT throw eggs at our house, soap your windows, none of that crap. And, it will show them something about citizenship at the same time.

Re: Is selling deer antlers legal?
I've been to auctions and sportsman's club flea markets and have seen boxes of them sold. Year round.
The question is, will you be on your feet or your knees?

Re: Is selling deer antlers legal?
there's a trailer setup on Cabela's front porch selling them almost every weekend. Bunny cops don't even glance at it as they walk by. Must be legal.

Re: Is selling deer antlers legal?
If you determine for sure that it's legal, I'd be interested in purchasing them. I prefer them sawn in half lengthwise as my dog also goes crazy for them.
If you're feeling philanthropic, you can put me in line as well.

It is frowned upon at the north pole.
You must pay attention to the man behind the curtain. Or you will loose.
