Very nice. Your boy should be very happy. Teach him well, hope he has many years of enjoyment with that. I think Nikon has a new "budget" priced scope one for AR's and another for rimfire. I think they are P223 and P22. I have Cabelas catolog right here the P22 is $179.99 I havnt read anything about them though so I dont know if they are good, bad or in between. Good luck. Dom

I have a savage Mark II and a savage axis both wearing the Centerpoint 4-16x40 scopes from Wally world. My buddy has one also on his mark II. The are perfect scopes for these rifles and are less than $80. Not a single complaint about them other than they are a tad heavy for hunting with but off great accuracy from the bench

You would do well with a BSA Sweet 22 from SportsmansGuide. Got mine for under $50 shipped. I believe they have three different models .22LR / .22Mag / .17

I have the BSA Sweet 22 (.22LR), great scope for the money and wont hurt the bank if the boy messes it up.

i second the bsa. for the intended use they work perfectly. there really isnt any point in putting a 2k nightforce on a 22 for a kid. kids no matter how well intentioned have a way of dicking stuff up, alot. im sure youll be with him when its shot as i am with my kid but his guns still get dropped or knocked over when leaning against something, its just how it goes.

a kid starting out isnt going to the difference in good glass much less give a damn, they just wanna shoot, alot and thats good. a bsa, tasco, centerpoint, ncstar will all all survive on a 22 and are plenty of scope for a teen starting to shoot and your not gonna have to strangle him when it gets messed up and eventually it probably will. now when he moves up into something a little more large in caliber, thats when your going to want to step up to decent glass as the one mentioned DO NOT handle recoil very well for the most part from a center fire rifle cartridge.

hope i helped, now go get a scope and have an awesome day at the range watching him grin ear to ear and youll be proud as shit when he starts ripping bulls apart and cant get enough of it. good job on being a good dad.

I'm not sure about the comment about some of the scopes not handling recoil on larger guns. The centerpoint I have started out on a .22, then got moved to my K98k Mauser and now resides on my .223. We have for some unknown reason at my job, a sweet 17 on a rem 700 .308 tactical. And that gun gets atleast 500 rounds thu it a day. And so far it's fine.

I have that same gun only in 22lr. very accurate. I use it in an indoor winter league and do quite well. I put a bushnell banner 4-12 and it does just fine. I paid about a hundred bucks for it. I think a 4x or 3-9 would be even less.
