Default Opinions on S&W 5906/6906 vs Ruger P89DC

Been working on my cousin to sell me his once fired P89DC since I already have two P95's. However I have been interested in the S&W's that CDNN is currently selling. Just looking for opinions comparing the two different designs. I already have two plastic 9's so my next will be all metal.
    Thanks

all good guns but you don't know the condition of the CDNN guns until they arrive at your FFL after you've paid for them. but you do know the condition of the P89DC so that would seem the logical choice to me. both the 5906 & 6906 are great guns but none of them are new and many are police trade-ins. i've seen some perfect 5906's that looked like they just came from the factory and i've seen some beat to hell.

I have had very good experiences with buying used from CDNN and Robertsons Trading and some others. I have received some in near mint condition and some in well worn condition ,but these companies always state the condition as Excellent, Very good, Good or Fair condition and I have found that there grading of the firearms has been fair. Sometimes I buy them in the good or fair condition- the lowest grades , usually that sat in a holster a lot and were not fired much. Since I am in the refinishing business I just refinish them . I am more concerned with overall function and accuracy than how they look . Right now there are a lot of good buys on these S&W's . The 5906 series are good shooters and mags are plentiful I am actually thinking about picking up one of the compact 6904 series pistols . Value buys right now wood be S&W 915's and 59 models , I have seen them as low as $239.00 in good and fair condition. Brian / EFR

I own all three...as you can tell below. From what I have read on other forums, the 5906's and 6906's from CDNN have been pretty good. I like all three...but do have a passion for 3rd generation Smiths. I think you would be well served with either the 5906 or 6906. It depends on what you want it for. I keep my 5906 as a house gun with 17-round MecGar mags. I carry the 6906 with ease. Good luck.

The 6906 is an awesome piece! Not sure about the ones from CDNN but they are a good co to do business with. I got my 6906 from Robertson trading post - they are outstanding to do business with and list multiple pics for every gun they sell vs one picture to sell 20 guns and you take what you get! Their 6906's are from California Dept of Cirrections, are in great shape, and are $389. I think the ruger is a great workhorse, but I'd go 6906

Cruzans is right about Robertson's Trading I have bought 10 plus pistols from them -great people to deal with. Robertson's has some of the compact S&W's listed in very good condition that I have been eyeballing for a while now.

Although I am a big Ruger handgun fan (only 4 of my handguns are non Ruger), one is a 5906. It fits my hand perfectly and, for me, is a natural pointer. At some point in time I will probably add a 6906 from CDNN or Robertson.

I don't think you can go wrong with either the Ruger or the Smith.

I have a lot assoicates that really like the Ruger P89DC-P90 but I don't like these semi autos by Ruger. I think they are reliable accurate guns but I don't like the design of the gun, it's a bit over engineered. I feel the same way about there revolvers but like them. I perfer the 5906/6906 or all metal 3rd Generation S&W semi autos over the Ruger89... now I think the Ruger SR9/40s are up to challenging the 5906 or 3rd Gen Smiths.
