Yeah, I was just shooting trap a few days ago with mine.. it worked just fine for clay pigeons.

Granted, it doesn't have the option for removable chokes and it's a shorter, heavier package, but it still works.

Surefire forend (available for the 590): http://www.surefire.com/illumination...un-forend.html

Rifled slugs should be GTG on the Smooth/Cylinder-bore barrels.

On the whole 590/trap thing ..

I have a 20" 590 and have also been looking for a 28-30" ish barrel. I don't think it exists for the long mag-tube versions, but I DO believe that the 835 barrels will work on the short(er) mag-tube (18.5" barrel) 590s. This is probably your best bet for the 590, but I don't have an 835 barrel for you to test-fit.

There are 24" (long mag-tube IIRC) cylinder bore barrels out there but you need to search a bit. And I have what I believe is a VERY rare, factory, 20" (Long mag tube), A1 {heavy bbl}, Bayonet lugged, interchangeable Accu Choked), Ghost-ring bladed, phosphated barrel.

In the end, I just bought a $300 Dicks special Mossberg 500 28" & Slug-barrel combo to shoot trap with. Since that only works out to be about $120 more than an 835 barrel and I get an additional gun with 2 barrels, I've stopped the quest for the 28" 590 barrel.

OTOH, I make much more difference than the gun seems to. On a good day I blast as many with the 20" cylinder bore, collapsible stocked, red-dotted, 590 than with the 28" ribbed, beaded 500. On a bad day (distressingly more common than good days) I can't seem to hit much with either. Of course the 9 rounds in the 590 can be a benefit if you are only counting broken clays, not rounds expended ... Ok, now I'm thinking a Saiga 12 with a drum ...

I had called Mossberg a few years ago, and they quoted me around $200 for a barrel and mag tube.

    Streaker69,
That's a great setup. Love the way it looks, and I'm sure the function is just a good as the looks.
