    Default Are kimbers American made?

I can't seem to find any new information in Amy forums about this, but my buddy that use to own a gun store told me that kimber sold out and is no longer American made. He herd this about 2 years ago from his gun supplier. If you go to kimbers web site they say made in America. And the custom 2 I just bought says Yonkers new York on the slide. I was just wondering if anyone else had herd this and can clear up where kimbers are actually made and assembled.

They made changes in the company, but are still made in the US as far as I know. Better 1911 options out there than Kimber IMO but they are nice looking guns.

THe slides and frames are made by Smith and Wesson, are you sure you are not mixing up Kimber with Springfield?

As far as I know, S&W makes their frame and slide.

I'm not sure about their barrel, and trigger group and what not, however.

I would post the question here...

My money is on it being fully made in USA tho.

Curious about what a better option would be? I am thinking about picking up a .45 in Commander size and have my eye on STI products but I've never handled one let alone even saw one. I could probably spend about 1500.00 but no more than that.

    Kimber/SA/Colt owner here...

I have a crimson carry II, but have looked at and shot several of Kimbers other models...Kimbers are actually very nice looking guns, and in general are fitted well...Lots of people say they have QC/reliability issues, but I have had no problems with mine, so really can't say anything negative based on first hand experience.

As far as better options would, at the $1500.00 price point you could get an upper end SA with a lifetime no BS warranty (TRP or Trophy match)...Dan Wessons probably fall into that price point also...They are supposed to be quite good, though I have never shot one.

There is also Colt...I had a series 80 pistol years ago that I got rid of, regretted it ever since, and recently made up for it with series 70 govt model reissue. They are really impressive pieces of metal..If I had to sell all my 1911's tomorrow, the only one I would keep would be my Colt.

    They might actually work too!
Jeff Cooper was a huge supporter of gun games, when he was winning them at least...

My buddy had a DW, full size. That thing had nothing but failures every time he brought it out to shoot...even with 3 different seasoned shooters giving it a try.
