Hey I got tired of searching Delco when I got nothing more than so-so reviews about all of the gunsmiths around here. People kept suggesting the smith at Classic Pistol in Southhampton so I just but the bullet drove the hour up north and brought my AK to him.

I looked in Delco for a while, came up empty on a reputable gunsmith. I just drive an hour out to CDI. He does great work.

John Robinson is the smith at Classic Pistol, his work is fantastic.

Paul Eichenberg, west bradford, chester county. Independent full service smith, been in the business 40 years, graduate of pittsburgh school of gunsmithing. Google his name for phone number. As far as delaware county is concerned, there is a very gifted and competant full time smith in Havertown. Problem is that he does wholesale work for a number of area stores and does not take retail business off the street. Zoning issue.

There are one or two smiths that are known to the members of delco field and stream. If you know any members that have been around that club for a while, they may be able to direct you.

I would rather not call gunsmithing a dying trade, but with the very few good ones around, one would get that impression. There are some that basically change parts, but do no fabricating. I even question the profitablility of such a trade. Time factor for waiting for parts and the slow turnaround time along with the high cost of liability insurance makes the profit margin rather slim. Modern guns get shipped back to the factory with the now common policy of lifetime warranties. If gunsmithing was a profitable venture, busy gun stores would have one on staff, as was the case many years ago.

Whatever you decide, get a few references relative to quality of work. There are some real butchers out there that will make whatever gun problem you have even worse.

Just got off the phone with classic pistol I was informed that John Robinson is finishing up the work he has and then will no longer be employed there.
