moving a gun safe
Anyone know of local companies that will move a 800 lb gun safe from Hershey to Mechanicsburg. Buddy of mine is building a new house in Mechanicsburg, and moving company will not transport the safe. Thanks!

Re: moving a gun safe
I've moved mine and several other safes with help. Tell him to consider renting an appliance dolly from UHaul. It will cost him about $20. Make sure he gets the kind with the ratching strap. Two of us can move mine which weighs the same amount across flat surfaces. I have actually moved it myself numerous times but I don't recommend this. If you're going up/down steps it will take 4 of you.
This is assuming he has a truck/SUV or can borrow one.
Did they say why they would not transport the safe?

Have you considered getting a quote from a tow truck (flatbed). I used one years back and it was very good.

Call some rental places and see if they have these. http://www.southern-tool.com/store/l...ruck_5512E.php Make the job easy and you do it yourself.
You must pay attention to the man behind the curtain. Or you will loose.

Re: moving a gun safe
If the basement stairs are a straight shot from the door, consider a truck and a winch.
At my pop's, we were able to unload it into the garage, tilt it into the kitchen, then run a strap around it. Using the electric winch mounted to the truck's receiver, nobody had to get underneath the monster, and we barely broke a sweat!
Hopefully you've good access.
Good luck!

Thanks again all. Knowing my friend, he'll probably want to hire someone.
Married, no kids, both great jobs - have the money for toys and hiring people to do heavy work - I hate him, lol.

If he's going to try a do it yourself, with friends or without, he would probably want some kind of powered dolly. Here's a link to one brand:

I believe that they can be rented. Beats having the clown posse trying to wrestle a safe up and down the stairs while jumping to avoid it when it tips over.Know your audience. Don't try to sell a Prius at a Monster Truck Rally.

You might give these guys a call: http://www.twomenandatruck.com/home
Not sure they do safes but suspect they do. I've used them before for a move and they were well equipped and professional. It has to start someplace... It has to start sometime...
