Waterfowl hunting in pike county?
I am new to the forum. I live on Long Island, NY and love to hunt waterfowl and upland birds. My family has a house in Lords Valley (between Milford and Lake Wallenpaupak) in Pike county that we use frequently. I currently have a boat with a gas powered motor complete with fold down blind that I use to hunt waterfowl on Long Island. Does anybody know of any good areas that I could waterfowl hunt in close proximity to Lords Valley? Also, I'm looking for areas to hunt doves. Any ideas? Thanks.

Re: Waterfowl hunting in pike county?
Well, I live in Pike County also.... Im in the same boat as you for the Waterfowl hunting, I have seen a ton of Goose around here, but not alot of Ducks. Everybody tells me The Delaware river is the place to go, its not my style, I like Timber hunting, a place where I can walk around with my Waders, theresa few places in Dingmans Ferry where its swampy with open areas in the middle, I have to do some scouting (I know its late) but I'll try.
As far as Dove Hunting goes, the Corn Fields along RT.209 have always produced many Dove's. The problem is right the now the Stalks havent been harvested yet. But any open field with good vegatation will do. When Pheasant or Rabbit hunting I have seen many doves.Know Christ Know Peace, No Christ No Peace

Re: Waterfowl hunting in pike county?
Thanks DieselDon16. Let me know how the waterfowl hunting goes! Are the cornfields on Rt. 209 public land? How would I know which fields I'm allowed to hunt? Thanks

Re: Waterfowl hunting in pike county?
All the fields on RT.209 are Park.land with the exceptions of the actual farmers homes. Echback is a private farm but the land surrounding it is park land. Easiest way is to look it up in the hunting book, there is a map.

Re: Waterfowl hunting in pike county?
Another place that you can hunt waterfowl right there in Lord's Valley is the lake at Shohola on State Game Lands 180 on Rt. 6. Be cautious because it can be a heavily fished lake, even during the late season. IIRC, they may get a lot of Black Duck up there.
Also, very important. It is an electric motor only lake. I'm not even sure you can have the gas engine on the boat or not. You can call the Game Commission to be sure.
Very nice lake.
I'm not sure if you can hunt Lake Greeley just west of there on Rt. 6. That's a Fish Commission lake.Sed ego sum homo indomitus

Re: Waterfowl hunting in pike county?
Has anyone had any luck with waterfowl hunting in or around Pike county? I am going to try to go out dove hunting this week along Route 209. Has anyone had luck seeing many doves? Thanks.
