RESTORING A NORINCO
Ladies and Gents,
I am restoring an AK platform to its original condition. The front gas block and sight fixture had the cleaning rod lugs ground off. Has anyone here removed and reinstalled a gas block and sight fixture before? How hard is it? Any suggestions or tips? Thanks in advance to everyone!

Re: RESTORING A NORINCO
You will need at least a 12ton press. Anything on the barrel is pressed on. You might want this: https://ak-builder.com/index.php?dis...oduct_id=29978 Those square bars come in handy and little c clamps to keep tension on those bars. I can't think of any thing else right now.

If you go to youtube there are quite a few good video tutorials on how to remove the gas block and front sight, along with how they are using a press.

How big is a 12 ton press? And how much are they? I'm not the most tool-oriented person.

Re: RESTORING A NORINCO
Are you using a Norinco gas block and sight base? If so, nice score on hard to find parts!
If not, the Bulgarian parts seem to fit better than any other.

Re: RESTORING A NORINCO
About the cheapest you can find is the Harbor Freight models.
Link here: http://www.harborfreight.com/12-ton-...ess-33497.html
$129....and it takes up a bit of floor space for something that would be used rarely. I would try to hook up with a friend with a shop first, or look into someone holding an AK "build party" that has a workshop."Disperse you Rebels! Damn you! Throw down your Arms and Disperse!" Re: RESTORING A NORINCO
can be done with a 4 pound hammer and a heavy bench vise...
can also be built up with weld metal and shaped to fit...
bayo lug, not cleaning rod lug.

Re: RESTORING A NORINCO
Sorry fellas been busy with work the past couple days. I'm restoring a Norinco to the preban style. I was lucky to find a new old stock stock set of norinco: gas block, sight block and pins(which cost me a pretty penny). I have looked at the youtube videos about removing said parts to get some ideas. However, I'm luck to have a custom engine builder as a friend! He has a shop full of tools and presses which he is will to let me use/assist me with(a fellow firearms enthusiast also). The rifle needs a little TLC from years of sitting and little care. The wood has many dents, but the metal parts are all in fine shape.
The Norinco is not actually here yet, its scheduled for delivery on the 16th. I believe it to be very rare. The fellow I purchased it from was selling off his fathers collection after he passed away (not a fan of guns and this was the last gun. sorry everyone!). The Model as of right now I'm not 100% sure of. It has the cleaning rod lugs ground off, and the muzzle is threaded. There was not a welded thread protector on it or any type of barrel extension. I have been looking for years to find a norinco as their rare in my area. So here is the big thing! the rifle has a norinco wire side folding stock and its stamped with the star/norinco symbol! The only one I have ever seen and I have been looking for years! I am confused as to the model however and if anyone can shine some light on the situation for me please do! The caliber is 7.62.
I will answer any questions about it to find out more information!
