Default Silencer Gel - Wet Suppressors

Anybody use this? I'm looking for recommendations.

If not, what do you use to shoot your suppressor wet?

Currently waiting on the transfer for a YHM Cobra to use with the P239 (9mm).

The two common stuff to put in a suppressor are water and wire pulling gel. The gel you can pick up in places like Home Depot. You don't use much, but make sure that the suppressor manufacture says that it's ok first.

Yeah, wire pulling lube seems to be the standard.

I've never used it, but I've used water, and it doesn't make a huge difference. Then again I've only tried it on one suppressor, so you might get different results on another one. FWIW, I just dunked the suppressor in a bucket of water before shooting it; no need to get fancy. Most of the water was gone after the first shot.

As for the wiring pulling lube, I called Tactical Innovations (the company that made my suppressor) and they said that it really just makes a nasty mess all over the place, and doesn't really reduce the sound that much anyway.

    YMMV

I run a soda bottle cap full of water in my cobra m2 and it makes a huge difference.

I've owned wet cans for years, and have tried near everything.... the two I settled on is wire pulling gel or white lithium grease

I use wire puling gel in my Bowers ATAS 45, and again, it makes a huge difference.

its easy cleanup, with water... use about a tablespoon in the blast chamber, lasts a mag or two.

do NOT mix oil/grease with water based sacrificial ablative media, THAT makes an ugly mess!

in my 22lr can, I put a few drops of CLP, and its even quieter.

I was told to use a small dab of shaving gel. I just run it dry.

    Jaybell,
Let me just make sure I understood correctly - wire pulling gel is easy to clean up with water, but i should make sure not to mix water and grease.

    Right?

    Right?
Isn't wire pulling lube water-based? I wouldn't think it would be a problem cleaning it out with water, but I still can't get my head around putting water into a suppressor. Putting water onto metal I can't easily access to clean or dry just seems like a good idea.

Can anyone explain in detail the process of actually 'wetting' the can with wire lube? Or with any other method for that matter? I have a .22 can and would like to give it a try, but I'm worried I'll mess up my baffles (which aren't accessible on my older model Outback II).

Edit: I was reading a bit on the Gemtech website, and they have a section in their FAQ about running their suppressors 'wet'. They recommend not running any centerfire cans wet, since the liquid reduces the amount of space available for the gasses to expand and could lead to over-pressuring the can. When a liquid is used they say to put a small amount in the first baffle, water and water-based lube being the best option as far as reducing the heat of the gases. They say oil-based is less effective, and petroleum-based grease will cause it to smoke. To clean they recommend submersing the can completely in WD-40 or another water displacer.

    Another vote for,

    [X] Water.

I've tried pulling gel and lithium grease.

In comparison the other difference I have noticed between the three is extra mess and more smoke.
