Carry Permit in Philly, How Long?
Just to get a random sampling, I would like to know how long it has taken folks to get their Concealed Carry Permit in Philadelphia. I'm on 30 days. I hear they drag their feet. I'd like to know how true that is.
Should be interesting...

From what I hear.......
They don't ever call you. Several on here just went down there and asked the status and they said "Oh, it's been ready".
I'd stop in

Re: Carry Permit in Philly, How Long?
41 days end-to-end before I was approved, inclusive. 43 days, inclusive, to receive the letter.
Do keep in mind that I had some interesting circumstances around getting my permit, so that may have expedited it somewhat.
ETA: expedited or delayed, I'm not sure.Last edited by ay82; August 9th, 2012 at 03:59 PM.

Re: Carry Permit in Philly, How Long?
I'm getting ready to reapply. Their requirements to do so are becoming ridiculous. The 2"x2" photo, the 2 people to vouch for you, 2 forms of ID, 2 forms of proof where you live, and if you served in the military, a copy of your DD-214. Why in hell do they need that???

Re: Carry Permit in Philly, How Long?
The City of Philadelphia as we all know or should, operates independently of the State of Pennsylvania. There was and maybe still is a provision set by the Police Commissioner that if you "have contact with Police" you will immediately inform them that you "have a gun and a permit to carry".
So.....if your car is stolen and you call Police to report it was taken while you were shopping then FIRST tell the Police "I have a gun and a permit to carry".
Or.....if you are double parked and discharging passengers (yes this is illegal) okay just stopping to drop off the wife, daughter whatever AND a Police officer approaches you to say "hey buddy you gotta move it" (contact with the Police) then you must reply; "I have a gun and a permit to carry".
Now what do you think the average cop is going to do?
1. Say hey that is great let me take your stolen auto report?
2. Say I hope you have at least 200 rounds are you done dropping off your wife?
3. Okay keep your hands where I can see them as he pulls his gun from his holster keeping it by his side and calling for back up?
The City is going to add in whatever they think they can get away with to DENY YOU EVERYTHING they can.
The Police Commissioner does not have the right to ad in provisions and "orders" to citizens that have no legal basis.
If I am walking down the street and spit on the sidewalk (yes illegal city ordinance) and a cop (this would never happen although I have arrested for this, that is another story) says "hey please don't spit on the sidewalk" is there a requirement that I holler "I have a PA drivers license"? LOL
So why do I need to say "I have a gun and permit to carry"? Come on.
Okay I apologize, ther should be a requirement to tell the cops you have a drivers license when you have "Police contact" because for some of us a motor vehicle is alot more dangerous then a firearm.
HahaHA LOL!

As long as they want!
I believe Commonwealth Law states no longer than 45 days, but you may want to check on this. My last renewal took about a month. AND, they did not file it under "Renewal," but rather as a "New" LTCF. The PPD will send you a postcard, when it's ready to be picked up.
One thing that I found very interesting was the number of elderly folk who were applying for LTCF permits. There had to be 50-60 elderly folk either applying for, or picking up, their LTCF cards. Many of these folk were elderly black women, dressed in their Sunday best. I am impressed! Rock on grandmas!
Yeah, Chuckles and Nuttjob love to hinder the law-abiding citizenry, while simultaneously allowing violent repeat offenders to walk our streets and kill LEO's.

Re: Carry Permit in Philly, How Long?
I applied, 4/18/12 and was told 45 business days. Recieved a letter saying it was approved on 6/18/12. Three days short of their "Business Days" BS, but obviously way over 45 actual days.
