Default GAO Report on Concealed Carry Permits - by State

This report was generated in July 2012 by the Government Accountability Office (GAO). I find it quite telling that the report is titled "GUN CONTROL" with a sub-title of "States’ Laws and Requirements for Concealed Carry Permits Vary across the Nation"

The report includes handgun permit statistics nationwide, by state as well as reciprocity and requirements to obtain a permit in each state.

The report is available in the attachment, or you can view it directly on the GAO

Notice that this report is in the form of a response to Sen. Feinstein's inquiry. In my judgement she is the leading opponent of CC reciprocity legislation. I haven't read the report yet, but no matter what it says (or how beneficial it may be to us), she now has statistics from GAO she will likely point to on why reciprocity is dangerous and the worst thing since bin laden and global thermonuclear war. Keep an eye on what she does with this....

I have just completed reading the document; I find it refreshingly neutral. Simply relating the facts at hand, with no embellishment whatever.

According to the report, PA is 6th by percentage of active "permits" for states that had figures available. (Active permits/20+ year old population)

    Utah - 19.3%
    Georgia - 11.5%
    Iowa - 10.9%
    South Dakota - 10.6%
    Indiana - 8.7%
    Pennsylvania - 8.3%

Yeah but it's like 3rd in total permits if I read it right.

I am on my phone and can't read it but since I have pa ltcf and 2 others via non residency, am I counted as 3?

If so, no wonder Utah has 19% of population.

Precisely. Some states do not keep track of the permits/licenses issued to residents vs non-residents. It's just total state permits.

The last report I saw (I think it was FBI) indicated 8 million total across the country. With PA having about 800,000, that would mean fully 10% of all the permits in the US are from PA alone.
