Re: St. Etienne 1822 French Cavalry Pistol
It is not missing the "flintlock". It is a percussion firearm to begin with so there is no hammer, frizzen and pan assembly. But it is missing its hammer.
I wish I could give you more information. Maybe you could get some more clues by searching the name on the right side of the gun. de Chatellerault might get you somewhere.

Re: St. Etienne 1822 French Cavalry Pistol
Looks a lot like my Grandfather's pistol - If I can figure out how, I'll post photo's, but unfortunately all I know about it is he won in in a poker game in WWII in Germany. How's THAT for lack of providence? Mine does have the hammer, but no ring (no spot for one) and no brass on the pistol - all steel.

Re: St. Etienne 1822 French Cavalry Pistol
That graph paper is 4 squares to the inch, and the round is a .38 for size comparison - the bore on the pistol is about equivalent to a 12 gauge. Cool pistol , but I know this doesn't help, Just showing...

Re: St. Etienne 1822 French Cavalry Pistol
Also looking at the picture, it sure looks like it was always percussion - unless they swapped out the entire barrel and lock assembly- there does not appear to be any weld marks, or anything to indicate that there was ever a pan there to begin with????

P.S. Thank you for sharing !!! this is cool!
