Change/replace Taurus 92 mag catch to accept beretta 92 mags
Anyone in the harrisburg/york areas able to do this?
To put it plainly... I want to use beretta 92 mags(without modifying the mags) in my taurus 92...
Ive read some small tid bits about people doing this, but mainly it all leads to a gunsmith doing it for them, and no self-help instructions like there is to modify mags to work in the taurus 92...

I'm confused, do you want to mod the mags or not?
There are a lot of common parts to the PT92 and 92f/s. With a allen key you might be able to swap out the mag release. I just drilled the mag hole out in a couple of 92F mags. Maybe I can post pic's tonight.Owner Trigger Time LLc 01 FFL/NFA Saylorsburg, PA. Sales/Service/Transfers/Training

bump to the top
Still needing advice... Should I call around to local gunsmiths and ask them?
Only one I know of in Harrisburg area is Trop's, and it took 2 months to get my last gun worked onLast edited by morder1; August 7th, 2012 at 12:26 PM.

I think you have to narrow the Taurus' magazine catch latch that engages the magazine. Taurus uses a wider latch than the Beretta magazines accept. If you make that latch to match the notches in the Beretta mags - it should work.
This would involved removing the mag release assembly from the Taurus, then filing or grinding the latch down to match the Beretta's measurements. You will probably want to remove metal equally from the top and bottom of the latch so that the engagement stays centered within the notch on the Beretta magazine.
I personally would buy a spare magazine release part for the Taurus 92 and perform the operation on it, then insert it in the gun. ...keeping the original in it's factory condition should you mess up.
Once the mag release latch is modified - Taurus magazines will not center properly on the latch and will likely cause operation issues. ...thus is why most folks just choose to modify the Beretta magazines to work with the Taurus' larger latch.Last edited by knight0334; August 7th, 2012 at 12:47 PM.

Re: Change/replace Taurus 92 mag catch to accept beretta 92 mags
Thanks for the info
Would I just be able to buy a mag catch from beretta and install it in?
I havent taken my pistols down far enough to know if they are interchangable, but maybe that will give me something to do tommorow

Funny thing, the button is on the left on both the catches are on opposite sides. So I only modded the catch side and when I did get my 92F I was able to keep the modded mags. Good thing MEC-GAR 17rders from '93. Good mags.
