    Default 1891 Argentine Mauser finish

I picked up a 1891 Argentine Mauser that has a few nicks and one larger scrape on the stock. Other than that it's in great shape. As best I can tell everything is original including the finish on the stock. It looks like it's an oiled finish. Does anyone know what the original finish was? I was thinking of just using some linseed oil on the nicks and scrapes to blend them in. I don't plan or want to mess up the original finish on the rest of the gun. Any suggestions?

First thing I do with any surplus rifle is wipe it down with mineral spirits and let it dry. They I make a blend of 30/70 turpentine to linseed oil then wipe 3 coats or so of that on. That always works for me, however many others have different methods that will all work just as well
