Proxy server use

I noticed lately that when I want to view and post on PAFOA that I cannot use a proxy server.
The news about government spying on forums like this one is on every page these days, but when I try to use a server I "can" sign in but when I click the next page it signs me out automatically.

What's up with that?.........anyone know?

I have no idea. I tried it all and it does sign me in but does not refresh the page automatically like it should. So I have to click, "click here if the browser.....yadayada" and it will sign me out right then and there.

Weird.

i use proxies all the time for the online games i play. never tried it on here. but wow your mention of gov spying just gave me food for thought.

whats the use of using a proxy now, you've been here a long time, and IF the gubmint hacked the site, they will get your previous IPs... which are on every post *I* can see from the mod side.

proxies, in this case, are useful only when posting anonymously, which ya cant do here so much.

you'd have to delete yer accound, start a new anon one, and use something like TOR to access anonymously

nah.
i dont use proxies here or any forums. i use to on a game i played to keep hidden from some jerk that use to cyber attack me all the time.

im not computer savvy enough to hide myself any other way. a friend suggested it to me and it worked soo i was happy.

the guy use to always freeze up my computer, screen would turn blue.

lol think its somebody i use to beat up ingame :P

You don't have to hack the site to get somebody's IP. Even without hacking or tricks you can get somebody's IP with a little effort if you roughly know the times they visit the site, which you can get from post times.

Either cookies like Exbiker suggested or the proxy uses multiple outbound IP addresses and is not tying your requests to a single one. Thus, if you signed in vbulletin creates a session linking your session id (provided by your cookie) and your IP. If your next request comes through on a different IP no matching session will be found.
