    Default Winchester 94 issue

Hello all, I'm a new member from down in Greene county and I have a question about on old Winchester that I picked up.
Its a .30-30 94 made in 1951 and I basically bought it sight unseen from a buddy of mine who got it after Winchester stopped making them. He got tired of it sitting around so now its mine.
Overall it is in decent shape and needs a good cleaning, but the problem I am having is with the lever. The lever does not want to stay into locked position well. It takes little finger pressure to begin to open the action. My real concern is when holding the rifle horzintally, hands on the buttstock and forend and swinging the rifle down will open the action.
For an old gun it has wear but not overly worn. Looking around I think that perhaps it a weak friction catch and spring but I don't know. I haven't had a 94 for years and cannot remember what my last one was like. Any thoughts?
