Pittsburgh-Area Lawyer Needed To Fight Purchase Denial

Ok folks...

I was denied the purchase of a firearm in 2010 because of an involuntary mental health diagnosis at age 17. I was found to be completely normal, and the circumstances are very much extenuating.

I tried to fight this on my own but to absolutely no avail. I am not completely out of options I can exercise alone. I need legal help to take my appeal through the courts... Can someone recommend a good attorney in the Pittsburgh area who can help me retake my 2nd Amendment rights back? If you don't feel like advertising here, drop me a private message... This is extremely important; I was reminded by the Colorado movie theater shootings just how important protection is. Imagine if just one other person had a gun... How different and outcome it would have been.

I haven't seen your post before, but there is a web site called "The Shooter's Bar" and for Pennsylvania it shows one attorney in the Allegheny County area...

I need legal help to take my appeal through the courts...

I'm not a lawyer, but I've seen posts reguarding this topic a handful of times. I'm pretty sure an appeal will get you nowhere. What you need to do is contact a knowledgable lawyer about firearms law. They'll take you through the steps of petitioning the court for a restoration of rights. You'll need to see a psych for an evaluation on your own dime. You'll have to appear in court and the PSP will grill you about everything and anything. It'll be costly, but if what you said is true, then it should be a fairly easy win. Good luck!

Yep, Jon has taught CLE courses on this specific topic, fighting mental health commitment prohibitions. CLE courses are where lawyers teach other lawyers how to do things. He's who I recommend to anyone with a gun issue in western PA, and he has a particular skill set for this prohibition.

Same thing happened to me. Involuntary 72 hour commitment (302) a long time ago

What you have to do is get that 302 legally expunged.

11 years after that 302 happened I hired a lawyer (in Norristown PA). I got an
in-depth psych eval by a reputable psychologist, and took the matter to court.

I had to throw around $5000 at the problem between the shrink and the lawyer, but we got the 302 expunged from my record and my rights restored.

This was 5 years ago now and to date I have not run amok killing innocents or myself

Yeah, I've taught a couple of CLE sessions with him. Sort of slim guy, quiet but very sharp. I don't recall any limp but we mostly just sat on the dais for 7 hours.

Does anyone know if it is admissible for a 302 to prohibit the purchase of a firearm if the 302 was 1. when I was minor (15 years old) 2. about 20 years ago? Right now I'm having problems finding a trace of the records.
