OK, So I have a possible problem.
So yesterday I stocked up on some ammo. .380 and 40S&W.
I put it next to my safe, in a rush, with company walking in the door.
Well it went to the back burner of the brain.
we went out today, came home to find 300 RDS scattered about the floor. Along with 1 rottweiler all happy as can be. boxes shreaded and ammo holder trays chewed up.
I am certian that all boxes were 100%full, but I am missing 3 rounds of .380.
If the dog swallowed it what could it do to her? Would it be like a stone and just pass in the poop?
She has no broken teeth or cuts in her mouth. This would make me think that IF she ate 3 rounds she ate them whole.
Anyone ever have a issue like this?
Guess this is gun/ammo/lounge no idea where to put it. So mods feel free to move it where ever you think this belongs.

oh that really sucks. hopefully it will pass through without issue, but stomach acids are powerful, lets hope they don't dissolve the metal and expose the lead or gunpowder to your prancing pooch.

Holy crap! I would think that it would be okay. Not that eating ammo is a good idea, (oh yea I eat ammo for breakfast) but most modern ammo is sealed pretty well. Lol good luck!

Re: OK, So I have a possible problem.
At the cost of the rare to find .380, anyone who wants to get 3 free rounds can come get it.
We just gave her a little larger dinner to help the process along.
I am 99.9% sure the box was 100% full, and 3 rounds are MIA. We have turned the room upside down and backwards 3 times now. The search is going to continue ..
Its gonna be a stinky job but someone's got to do it.
Guess I got the sh!tty end of the deal.
I think one of 2 things, she'll either pass it in her poop, or throw it up tonight.
Any and all input is needed.

PS. Ammo is .380 FMJ remington umc, no exposed lead.Last edited by Snert; May 23rd, 2010 at 07:33 PM.

Re: OK, So I have a possible problem.
I would contact your vet. At the very least ask them what symptoms of lead poisoning will look like. They may be able to subscribe something to help the dog pass the bullet.
Dogs digestive systems are amazing. Our dog got into several pairs of my wife's underwear over the winter. After the snow melted I found a good six or so pairs of underwear in the back yard that looked almost brand new after the poop was washed off. I keep teasing my wife saying if she doesn't behave I'm going to put some of those digested underwear in with her clean underwear so she'll never know if she just wore a pair of pooped out underwear.
I'm no expert but I think your dog will be fine. I would still call my vet to make sure though.

Take your dog to a vet and have him x-rayed. The shape of ammo may become an obstruction and that can be life threatening.

Re: OK, So I have a possible problem.
Totally. .380 ammo is friggin' expensive.
No, seriously...I don't know if I'd run to the vet right away. I'd say watch him for a day or two to see if he acts funny. Check his stool for blood, or hopefully 3 very expensive cartridges within the next 24 hours.
If you don't find them, you find blood in his stool (or it's darker than usual), or he just acts lethargic or otherwise odd, take him to the vet promptly.Almost a LIB .... ertarian

I admit to being overcautious with my pets, but to the vet hospital I would be going, now.
Add: just noted where you are, Newton Vet Hospital is 24-7 365, it's on rt. 206 just north of Newton
