need help colt targetsman
Hello all,
I have and old colt huntsman. I believe someone put a targetsman slide on it. It has the colt adjustable sight. Very simple sight. The elevation screw is missing and i can't find a replacement. This is the sight i have on the gun. It is a very small screw. Any help would be appreciated

Re: need help colt targetsman
Unfortunately I've tried them. It is not an accro sight or this would be easy. The sight is simpler then the accro. Very basic, small spring hinge on a small plate with sights bent up, spring holds tension on plate and screw holds plate down. I "stole" this pic from gunbroker it shown the screw i need in the sight (on left side of sight) It is very small (thin) the head makes it look bigger than it is. I can only guesstimate, but it looks like a size 0 or 1 screw.

You could try egunparts.com (Numrich) and see what they have. Or Jack First (www.jackfirst.com), he has a lot of parts for older model guns.

Re: need help colt targetsman
Yeah, already tried them both...
I'm Striking Out.
Looks like i may have to order the whole slide with sight i was offered. It's just gonna be $130 for a screw that should really cost a few bucks.

Dave
Have you tried this guy
http://www.colt22.com/index.html
He might not have the part, but could probably tell you what kind of screw you would need ( maybe its common to other "older" type colts, that you could get parts for from Numrich or something )
Website has a load of Woodsman/Huntsman/targetsman info

Re: need help colt targetsman
So i have tried everywhere and no luck for the exact screw. I did however find a screw the right size and threads but it is too long. Does any one have a targetsman with this sight, that can measure the elevation screws overall length. Thanks

Re: need help colt targetsman
Well 7795, I can only relay my experiences needing screws. In both cases the parts were not available. The gunsmiths I knew fabricated the screws I needed. One case was an old beretta, the other was an antique firearm made in the 1840s. In one of the instances, I hung around while the smith made the screw, figuring out the thread configuration and length needed, even machining the head to the correct fit when seated. Needless to say, I was impressed.
When he was done, it looked no different than the original, lying in position for the perfect fit. The cold blue was even the matching shade relative to the rest of the gun. I don't remember the cost, maybe my memory does not want to recall.Last edited by c45man; July 25th, 2012 at 12:10 PM.

Re: need help colt targetsman
I imagine it was not cheap. Good work never is. I guess that a gunsmth is my best bet. At this point the screw I have is perfect except for length. A gunsmith should be able to determine the correct length and cut it for me. The gun is in nice shape but is a shooter. So a slightly different blue on the screw is o.k. as long as it adjusts properly.
