    Default OC Encounter... Kinda

Let me just say I CC 98% of the time... I OC when I hunt/hike/fish or if I feel bold in public (rare)..

So I was out Ground Hog Hunting today with my .222 Rem 700 and my .22 Ruger Single Six (OC). Just bought a New holster for it since my leather one went to shit. Anywho unsuccessful at rounding up any hogs, we head back to my car... I parked on the side of a soybean field off the road. A dad and his son were jogging up the road as we were getting to the car.

I start to put my Rem .222 Rifle in its case when the dad slows and says,

Him "Whats the deal with the gun?"

    Me "Which one?"

    Him " The pistol?"

Me " It's a .22, Cheaper to put down a wounded hog with a .22 than a second shot from my rifle"

Him "Oh yea? Are you aloud to carry it like that?"

Me "Last time I checked I can"

    Him "Oh... OK, Have Fun."

So he and his son kept on their jog, and I finished packing, leaving my .22 OC all the way home...

I can't say it was a bad encounter, but I wish I had a flyer to give... My printer is broke...

I do encounter other sportsmen out in the field at times and none have said a word of my OC... First time for me when I was hunting though...

I too carry a single six when out hunting for groundhogs. Did it today. Got 2 grizzlies. Was crow hunting too and got 6 of them. Then went fishing.
Guns don't kill people, it's mostly the bullets.

I carry a glock 10mm while hunting as a self defense weapon, not for hunting. I'm not sure about hunting state parks however as there was some iffy information of OC in a state park. Someone more knowledgable will have to comment on that.

As far as OC while hunting, I found this thread:

    EDIT:
Here's a current thread of OC and state parks:

Its legal to OC in a State Park while hunting in the designated hunting areas.

It is illegal to groundhog hunt in State Parks, even in designated hunting areas.

No ground hogs in state parks that are designated hunting . Really makes sense.

Well. I left the camera at home. And I was hunting alone. Also I don't have a cell phone. Haven't had one in 7 years. Just an older iPod touch, with no camera. But the hogs and crows went to a buddy who will use the feathers and hog tail for projects and the meat will probably be used as bait for coyote or catfish.

Would like to know what the catfish bait consist of. I love fishing for cats.

I've seen a lot of people use chicken livers, but we used to use squid. It's stinky and unusual in fresh water. The cats get curious because it's something they're not used to smelling.
