    Default Shooter/Gun Friendly Eye Doctor

I'm new to the site, so please direct me if I'm posting in the wrong place.

Does anyone have or know of an Eye doctor near or in Philadelphia that caters to shooting/shooters? I'm over 40 and the eyes just aren't the same.

    (I am not a optometrist)

If I may...what is it exactly that you hope to correct? I'm guessing your loosing the ability to focus on close objects (like a front sight of a pistol)?
Are you a pistol, rifle, or shotgun shooter? It will make a slight difference in your choice of vision correction.

I had perfect vision for most of my life.
Over the past few years I've been through the gambit of vision correction for everyday life and for shooting. I have never found a perfect solution for shooting.

I'm currently looking into these: http://www.allaboutvision.com/coopervision/

I hear you, my eyes were sharper than an eagle until shortly after I passed 40. I didn't need a magnifying glass, I'd just hold something two inches from my eye and examine it. Now I can't focus on magazine text unless it's 10 inches away. After 10 inches I can see as clear as I ever did. Getting older is a bitch, but we all get to do it if we live long enough.

There was an article I read around a decade ago which discussed the subject. I found it with a google search.

I have to run and meet up with some friends to shoot some trap, but I found one doctor with a quick google search.

    http://www.huntershilleyecare.com/doctors.htm

    Dr. Stephen H. Cruse, A.S., B.S., O.D.

Dr. Steve is a graduate of York Central High School in 1966, York College in 1969 and Pennsylvania College of Optometry in 1973. He has special interests in the areas of ocular pathology, sub-normal vision and vision needs of the sport shooter. Dr. Steve on occasion consults with veterinarians and pet owners on small animal eye problems.
    Good Luck!

"X is what percentage of Y?" Divide the first number by the second, multiply the answer by 100. Add a percent sign. Think.

Three things are inevitable in life: Death, taxes, and reading glasses. The thing is, you don't want reading glasses for shooting. You want glasses that optimize your vision somewhere between the front sight and the target. What works very well for me is a set of adjustable focus glasses from Superfocus. Yep, they're ugly and expensive, but I can set them for whatever distance I need.

Dr. Neil Kenney. I think he has an office in the KOP Mall. Real decent guy, conservative, deacon in the local Baptist Church. I don't have his number, but a Google search will get it for you.

I would reccomend Casey Optical in Springfield. I did a remodel of thirty store not long ago and had a talk with the owner about shooting glasses. He told me they cater to a lot of shooters. Nice staff and good people. I wish you the best of luck.
