FINALLY got my Father's guns...
After 3+ years we finally managed to get my Dads guns back from my Sisters EX-husband. I Haven't seen them since I was in my teens (around 20 yrs). I'm very pleased and so was my dad who was here yesterday (the day i got them transferred to me). His face was great Ear to Ear smile. Since he is getting older he told me keep them. But he'd like to come over and shoot them. He's great. Anyway, I couldn't wait to put a few pics up...
Could not get any to upload here so i put them on flicker

Re: FINALLY got my Father's guns...
Was your sister's ex-husband in possession of handguns that weren't transferred through an FFL?

Re: FINALLY got my Father's guns...
Thanks guys i love them. My Dad is really an awesome guy little ornery but really, really, awesome. I will absolutely let him know how appreciative I am.
now for the story...(a little long).
My father bought these guns legally in New York in the late 60's on a Westchester County Permit. At the time he was issued it there was no renewals. He moved in the 70's to Sullivan County. He carried and shot them until the mid to late 70's then only a few times till early 2000's. He went to do something with his permit (i believe get a new card his was old paper). They told him ispermit was not renewed (Westchester changed to renewal system) and his permit was invalid and needed to re-apply. They allowed him to surrender to a local gun shop in Orange County (his current residence) until he either straightened out permit issues or sold/transferred to someone else. They were there for a few years. When my sister got Engaged (2008) she wanted to her then would be husband to get them from the shop and use them to obtain his permit. My father agreed to let him USE them for permit purposes, never to take full ownership. SO fast forward a couple years I am back in the area and ask for a couple of my fathers guns back so i can carry/shoot whatever. My sister and her husband wanted nothing to do with it. It got so bad my Parents almost took both of them to court to get them back. Just around the time they were about to get a court case going, my sister says they are divorcing. We ask him for the guns he says NO, They are mine. We had to start NYS Supreme court case to try and get him to give us back the guns. He finally contacted my father and said $1000 and he will give them back. That was last week and i got them back yesterday the 4th.
PHEW SORRY BIT LONG
One thing i forgot to mention. My father had a small Issue carrying a gun in queens on the way to long island. He was nervous to put paperwork through until he got some kind of paper work from NYPD about the outcome of arrest. And was scared to try and get paperwork because he thought they would just take the guns away. So they sat at gun shop for YEARS. It's all partly my fault i should have gotten my NY permit years ago when i was young and living there. I would have already had them. BUT live and learn I have them now.
I am actually taking my father to NYC Monday to try and get the papers he needs. If he wants them back there his. My mother already told him not to bother he will never use them anymore. They are both getting a little older now. But he wants to go i'm gonna take him.Last edited by djs7795; July 6th, 2012 at 07:18 PM.
